I got a 3” leveling kit from procomp. I was wondering if I could fit 285/70R17 tires on it? Would I still need a CMC? Please advise.

Probably 90-99% likely. There are very very rare instances of the right tire, wheel offset and just basic Tacoma nuances that have gotten away with it. At least when you count full lock and wheel flex, which you should always include that as a factor. I’m sure some have gotten away with only rubbing at full lock or when off road, I doubt many would recommend that though.

I would wait for more responses just for confirmation or even try in the tire wheel or lift threads. Full disclosure- I don’t have 285s on this truck but it’s been a very regular topic. I had them, without issue on my 2nd gen but again, everything I’ve seen and read would certainly lean heavily towards the cmc.

There’s a ton of info on TW about this topic so do a little more research. I recently lifted my truck with the Eibach stage 1 kit and it ended up being 2.5” lift in the front. I also changed my wheels and tire to 285/70/17’s and did not need a CMC.

To run 285’s there’s more variables than just how much you lift your truck like wheel offset, proper alignment and clearing your OEM UCA’s. I also learned here (thanks to TW) that not all Taco’s are the same and some don’t need it. Fortunately, I bought my wheels and tires from a shop that frequently does CMC’s and was planning to get one if I needed it. I got lucky and didn’t need a CMC. No rubbing at full lock, or any trimming. upload_2020-5-19_23-0-55.jpg

Just depends on the wheel offset and backspacing. I had a 3” lift with 285’s with no rubbing, the wheels had a 0 offset. Anything with an aggressive negative offset will most likely rub.

CMC typically are not very expensive by any means, but as mentioned above just depends on offset/alignment.
