For doing the valve covers, it's worth it, in my opinion. I didn't want to have to worry so much about a bunch of dirt and crap falling in to my valves. You still have to be mindfull of it, but there's not as much junk, oil, dirt to worry about.

If I did my valve covers, you can do yours man. Watch that video that Tim posted and you'll see there's basically nothing tricky about this- as he said, just time. Just mark everything beforehand and revel in doing a good job. It's absolutely worth your time and energy and if you run into issues there are people here to help.

I'm about 1.5 hours South of you... When you get the parts collected up, hit me up. I've done the valve covers a few times now. We can do them at my place if you need help.

Around $26,000 worth of unleaded in the fuel tank.
You can usually tighten the bolts to get by for a while until you can actually change the gaskets. With extensions and swivels you can reach most of them. If they are anything like tacomas I have had, the bolts are super loose.

Definitely looks like a valve cover leak. Did the work myself, took me over 3 hours. I was being neat about it though, bought 4 cans of parts wash and plastic bristle brush. Since alot of components will be removed might as well make it look clean again when put back together, worth the extra elbow grease. Only use oem toyota valve cover gaskets, bolt grommets X16, spark plug seals X6, upper plenum gaskets X2, throttle body gasket, and fipg to reseal the aluminium half moons. If you want to go the extra mile, might as well replace spark plugs and wires, PCV and grommet.

I purchased that steam cleaner last year. It works great and puts out some serious hotter than four hundred hells heat.
Wear some leather or mechanics gloves when using that in case you accidentally spray your hand with steam. Easy to do and I'm not sure which hurts worse...the steam burn or the burn(s) from using the heat gun!
