Recovery Gear Case

Hey all--wondering if anyone has tried this weatherproof case from Harbor Freight for the rack mount recovery gear? Looks pretty decent and with the coupon can get it for $120.

Did you put the strut in it? I haven’t seen anyone do that but it’s a great idea.

 

I saw them and they looked great. But then I found a company called HQ Issue. They sell them on Amazon and sporting goods stores. Nearly identical and cost around 85 bucks when I bought it.

Yeah I put that there, but only because of the solar panel mounted on top, helps get proper sunlight in certain instances.

 

I'm looking at recovery gear storage options to carry on the rack. I really like the dimensions of the gun case but I just see gun case. I dont see any good coming from driving around with a gun case on my roof. The law. The idiots. The thieves. The concerned citizen at the grocery store. My friends busting my balls. Just seems like a heat score to me. In fact if I didnt know about this trend I would think someone was very stupid to have their guns on the roof. So are there other options? Cases with a similar dimension that dont scream GUNS? And for the record I'm not anti gun, I'm fairly well armed, but I am definitely anti heatscore.

But if you make the case removable, you won't need to drive around to the mall with all your offroader/overlander gear on your truck. I mean, sure, you can't advertise how badass you are while getting a Starbucks, but it's less weight, more aerodynamic, and impossible to steal something that isn't there.

 

I have most of my recovery gear crammed in the under seat storage. Kinda like jumper cables, never know when you will need it.

 

I get what your saying. But I'm not an over lander nor do I often go on offroad specific trips. I live in an area that is covered in forest access and old settlement roads. I spend a lot of time exploring. I dont want to remove my gear. I want it in a case on my truck so that I have it all the time but I also dont want it in my bed taking up space.
Actually I'm leaning towards a used ski carrier box. Lots of storage space, waterproof, lockable, aerodynamic, low profile.
