Interesting. I wonder if RTX Voice is having anything to do with it. I'm tempted to use DDU & start over with video drivers just to rule out any issues.

    What resolutions are your monitors?

    ^This.

nVidia has been blaming Windows for a while on this. There are tons of variables that seem to cause it, like using g-sync in freesync mode to mention one.

Intel 10th gen isn't shabby at all. I mean Ryzen still wins the price to performance metrics but the 10th gen i5 is a great gaming chip. The power and cooling demands are still a bit crazy but manageable due to some fancy engineering Intel did on the chips. It'll be cool to see how AMD responds. I hope it means we see Zen 3 shortly.

Edit: Okay caught something really greasy. The pricing the reviewers are using is OEM list price (wholesale) and not consumer MSRP. Intel is going to be more expensive than what's being shared right now.

Anything really unexpected? (cant view the reviews at work) or is it pretty much just more of what everyone already expected...Intel does great on single threaded things but loses out to AMD in multi threaded. With gaming going to Intel but costing more $$$ for generally a few FPS more performance?

pretty much but with more heat and power so more $ needed for higher end AIO and mobo

Intel gained about 3-5% IPC this gen, so the gap widened by about that. Unless you're talking e-sports titles at 1080P the gap between AMD and Intel on frame rate is still very tight. Most of the reviewers are showing 1080P e-sports slides because that's the only place the difference is noticeable, and there Intel pushes 5-10% more frames than AMD.

So, TL;DR, Intel does great on single threaded things but loses out to AMD in multi threaded but now with Intel taking a lot more power consumption.

Awesome, perfect timing, thanks for the heads up.

I'm also seeing reports that current Z490 boards will also support 11th gen Intel. Wouldn't that mean that Intel is planning to squeeze one more generation out of their 14nm? If so that's blood from stone if I've ever heard it.

It will be the last with the 14nm node but the 1st Intel CPU to use a new core architecture and PCIe 4

    Yup.

AMD will move to 7 nm ultra-violet (known as 7nm+) this year with Zen 3, which is significantly smaller and more efficient than the original 7nm node. AMD will then use 5 nm construction on Zen 4 (this was just leaked a couple of days ago.) So by the time Intel thinks they will get to 7 nm, AMD will be on 5 nm or better.

At least the new socket for Comet Lake is compatible with PCI-E 4.0 even if Comet Lake can't use it. Other than that, yeah, nothing really exciting from team blue until Meteor Lake.

The leaks are getting fuzzy on this though. It'll be a "new" core design because it'll use MCM like Ryzen does, but supposedly still based off the Pentium 3/Core architecture. So newish, but not completely new. It'll likely allow Intel to test out using the QPI (quickpath interconnect) to link up their first modular CPU without committing to a totally new design. Meteor Lake is when Intel is supposedly jumping off the Core bandwagon completely. It's like they're weening themselves off of a twenty year design cycle lol.

Meteor Lake has some crazy leaks too. Like Intel might try a big/little core design like ARM to become price competitive with AMD. Basically they might use their shiny new architecture on only one module for 2-4 cores, then have the old core design down-clocked for 6-X cores, and link it all together with a new memory controller they'll test drive in Rocket Lake. In theory it might work really well and allow crazy clocks and power consumption for a couple of the fast new cores which could translate into great gaming performance while the old cores handle everything else in the background. My worry though is that it could look really shitty in anything that needs more than the 4 fast cores, especially if AMD is selling all fast cores.

If we are getting really technical, Zen 4 also sounds like a fresh design. AMD has hinted at something they've found in predictive computing and they're trying to make it work for Zen 4. If they do get whatever they are up to working then Zen 4 will look a lot different than Zen 3. Enough that'll be like the change we saw in Intel when they redesigned the same core for Sandy and Ivy Bridge with some major changes to how data flow to the core was handled.

Hi fellow PC builders. Just found this thread and wanted to say hi.

I built my first PC about 1 year ago, made a bunch of changes since, and absolutely love it now haha. I built my mother in law a system a few months ago, and helped my wife build her first PC as well during the current "lockdown".

Here's how it sits today (yes the watercooling is super pointless for the CPU I have, and yes I could have upgraded other parts etc. etc. but I did it because it was fun to learn :))

    CPU: Ryzen 5 2600 (oc'd to 4.1 ghz)
    GPU: Gigabyte RTX 2070
    Mobo: B450 Steel Legend
    RAM: Corsair Vengance 3000mhz
    SSD: Intel 660P (1TB)

Be careful with that SSD, speed tanks when it gets close to full

Is 30 seconds a decent boot time from a WD green ssd? I feel like it boots a bit slower after replacing the PSU

    Thanks, good to know :).

I'm really only using it for programs and as my boot drive so should be good for some time. Games and larger files are are on my HDD
