I appreciate it. I understand how suspensions work though. I have two project motorcycles I'm currently building. I know that's different than a truck but I'm familiar with the mechanics. Feel free to follow my IG @steelcities.works

Very nice rack, I am also looking into design and fab a rack like this, I will be interested on the fab cost, maybe down here in Mx should be cheaper

are you welding the mount bracket to the vertical arms?

I have been thinking in options to have the rack and the OEM Tonneau Cover functional

I’ll have the quote and lead time tomorrow I believe. I’ll keep you posted. Correct on welding, those are the only pieces to weld. I can’t speak on the tonneau cover, I’ll probably never do one unless it’s a Diamondback. I could easily design up some brackets that bend around whatever cover you have and bolt on the vertical arms.

I’m happy to share my design with anyone who wants it. I work in SolidWorks but I can send whatever files you need.

This is very cool! I plan on building something very similar to this only in reverse for the inside of my cap. Then I can mount the trail gear over what are essentially useless windows and to the top.

Oh that's a great idea! Thanks, I just got the pricing back and it's as inexpensive as I expected so I gave it the green light. Ordering hardware today. Will start the build next weekend.

Thank you, and Very Cool! I can't wait to see how it turns out.

I want to find some sort of (you might be a little young to remember this) erector set type of channel stock. Something I can bolt together and assemble inside the cap so the fit is as tight as possible. I remember seeing stuff like this for hobbyists to build battle bots. My cap, an ARE MX has a strengthened center in the roof that is a smaller area. then the entire ceiling. This will allow me to place the cross supports flush or nearly recessed. The sides will have a foot that bolts to the cap clamps or an L rail that the clamps will clamp down on. I'll draw it up in cad once I get some measurements. Right now it's sitting in my garage waiting to be painted.

LOL I'll be 41 in a few months and being a builder all my life I def know erector sets. If I were you I'd look into using 80/20 extruded aluminum. Widely used for jigs, fixtures and tooling in manufacturing. Also, I've seen a bunch of guys use it on their cooking stations in the back of Jeeps, Tacos, etc. https://youtu.be/yPmH1ix2OeU

I know you've posted in the AL thread, but do you know about the trails off Ross Bridge Pkwy and Lake Shore?

Lake Shore had pretty extensive trails. Some have been shut down. The trails on the Bessemer side were open last time I went there. @Brian422 may have some info. If not, I’ll run out there this weekend and check.

Not sure I haven’t been over there in like 5 months. I’d be interested to know as well.

Thanks Russ. I didn't mean any disrespect of course. Just Erector Sets and Radio Shack are long gone items of the 70's. But something like that on a larger scale that can be bolted together and trussed with home made brackets would be perfect.

Man that Jeep has all the freaking bells and whistles. Makes me want to build an overland trailer even more. Time to start buying two lotto tickets instead of one from now on.

No disrespect taken, buddy, no worries  Just got a chuckle.

Yea, I've been following Trail Recon since I discovered overlanding and his channel is awesome. I'm not a Jeep guy but I just love the quality of his videos and they're packed with info and well told stories. The rigs are fully decked out and agreed the trailers are ridiculous. Talk about packing everything AND the kitchen sink. I'd love to have one but seems like an enormous expense. Those guys have money to through around obviously. Maybe they won the lotto???

The trails off Lakeshore are definitely open. I didn’t explore back there, but there are no gates up and I did go up a couple of the big hills to make sure.
