That’s what they told you the time was for a replacement?

Sadly I feel for you OP. I agree that you should not have to modify a modification to make things fit. My truck has been heavily modified and the only ones that needed any additional modification were stuff from Mobtown.

A skid plate crossmember was too short so I contacted them for a replacement. When all said and done it took over 6 months and the new cross member had the exact same problem. I ended up just modifying it myself to fit in the end.

Fingers crossed you don’t go through what I did.

I get both sides, I really do. I understand that no two truck are identical and sometimes things need to be modified, but in this case it isn't really close. I also understand that sometimes some aftermarket parts don't play well with aftermarket parts from other companies. That IS expected, because of the nature of things. In this case nothing concerning the tank or mounting locations is modified, so there really shouldn't be an issue. I paid for a product and that comes with some pretty low and basic expectations. I understand that I'm paying out money for a product in exchange for the assumption it will work and function as advertised. If not, then what is the money for? It certainly isn't useful in the state I received it. I get that things happen, that's life. What separates companies is their willingness to make it right. I'm willing to give @Mobtown Offroad the benefit of the doubt, I know Joe and his team are a solid group of guys.

Sorry to hear about your issues, a skid plate should be a bolt up and go with no modification to it. Now I would understand issues if this was a trans skid that doesnt line up with a trd skid plate, etc. I would return and get a product that doesnt require modification to work, especially for the price you paid for it. Seen quite a few folks in this thread with the same issues, means they need to get on the ball and redesign their product.

I had the same issues as well. I chalked it up to aftermarket tank straps and modified. I redrilled the holes and trimmed the triangular-protection. It ended up I only needed to redrill one hole because the other pair lined up after I jacked up the tank and skid plate. For the 1/2 inch bolts, I used another shorter pair I had on-hand and ran them through one side of the crossmember and through the skid plate. This made the threads of the bolt stick out from under the skid plate. I can crawl under and take pics if anyone needs. I know I'm not explaining it very well.

No that’s how I ultimately feel. Ball is in their court now. Multiple emails and tags here. They have the opportunity to make it right. If not, my Discover card will.

    UPDATE:

Hopefully this covers the multiple post with essentially the same questions/concerns.

Yes, the skid plates were built wrong in regards to the location of the slots. The issue was a revision was made and somehow the slot shifted in the cut software on the laser table. From the naked eye, this is not going to get caught by me, or the fabricator considering we are not welding them and installing them at the same time. We are aware of the issue, we are correcting the issue and we will be replacing the skid plates that are out there that are incorrect. We are asking for patience here, it was an honest mistake.

I am not trying to use COVID-19 as a scapegoat here but I have to. The laser cutting and plate forming is an outsourced part of this product. We do the welding and powder coating in house. We are working with the laser house to run another batch in a hurry but they're running a skeleton crew, as are we so things are slowed waaaaaaaay down right now.

As for the bolts being crooked, that is a simple mistake from packaging and shipping. The bolts that were supposed to be shipped were 1/2-13 x 1-1/2" Long. I found out that the ones shipped were 3-1/2" Long. A mistake made by a new guy working for us and I didn't catch it because he had the boxes taped up and ready for shipping. Again, once new skid plates are shipped, the correct hardware will ship with them.

Lastly, if you have a DCLB, the skid plate requires an extension piece. I didn't realize I did not have that as an option on the site that prompted me to ship with the skid plate. So we are going to correct that as well.

Please do not file charge backs or PayPal claims. If you received the product, and then do this, it puts us in a bad spot. Yes, you did receive it so technically you own it. I understand that the product has an issue, but that doesn't mean you get it for free... If you simply do not want it for whatever reason, return it and we will refund your purchase less the return shipping. We are working as fast as we can with the situation we have to work with.

Also, this goes for this thread or anything regarding our company. Mobtown Offroad is NOT affiliated with Tacomaworld. This is a forum that we try to be active on and help members with questions as well as try to promote our company. Posting threads and tagging us is not the most effective way of communication with us. That would be like going on Target's website expecting to talk to Apple about an issue you have with an iPhone... For some reason, this forum gets seems to have this issue across the board and I know I speak for every other vendor when I say this. If you have an issue, you call or email the company. I will admit, we are behind on returning calls and emails mostly due to not having a full workforce but still trying to keep up with on time deliveries... At some point, something has to give and we felt as though production takes priority right now.

I will try to remember to update this thread once new skid plates are in so I can get a list of who needs what.

    Thanks,
    Joe.

I still have literally no idea why your crossmember never fit. We still build them the say way since day 1 and you are still the only person we ever had fitment issues with after shipping almost 500 of these...

Joe, kudos on stepping up. I only posted as a "hey you're not crazy" type of thing. For them and for myself. I basically just chalked my issues up to having purchased the tank straps through the aftermarket and not Toyota (half the price is half the price). I made it work and since I went to the Randy school of off-roading it's just going to get bashed up anyway. And as far as the bolts, I had some in the garage that made it work just fine. What it boils down to is that I really don't care if I get another one or not. Fix these dudes first. I'm good with whatever.

The set I sold to a friend, his crossmember also didn’t. fit. He just did what I did and cut the welds to bend it out. Idk, maybe most people just brute force it in.

I agree it’s super weird because the very first cross member worked on my truck no problem. For some reason the other two didn’t.

Thank you Joe. Patience I have a lot of. All I ask from companies is an acknowledgment of an issue and a willingness to work together to come to a solution. I am aware of the struggles it takes to run a small shop like yours under normal circumstances, let alone current conditions. As long as a solution is in the works, I am happy.

I can only speak for myself, but I think a lot of people end up reaching out through TW is that it seems like this is the best way to get a response. When I first had an issue and Randy told me, via TW, that I needed to have a low fuel level, I had initially tried calling and emailing previous to making my post. Again, when I had the issue on the second time of install I called, emailed, then made a post. Those emails still are unanswered and contact was made here on TW, so that will only perpetuate people trying to reach you here first.

Thank you again for getting back to us. Please let me know if I should send an email or something more official than this to get on the list for a replacement.

On a somewhat related note, was the skid supposed to be powder coated? I was expecting it to be, but the website doesn't say either way so I must have just assumed. Either way it's not the end of the world, but worth asking.

I doubt it. Mine wasn't. I just bought a can of 3M undercoating and sprayed it. Whatever is on there will get scraped off anyway. I'll wasted time and money on coating stuff that can stay pretty.
