So I'm looking at getting into the RTT life and was curious if anyone had any experience with the smittybilt tent?

I got $250 gift card for Amazon and was looking to use it on an RTT but the only one I've seen on amazon is the smittybilt one.

got my first rtt a few weeks ago, tepui kukeman. got it mounted on cab height bed rack. my plan is to leave it on through the summer maybe into december? it wasn't terrible getting it on, but its not the easy on/off yakima setup. im not driving as much anymore with COVID either so not really taking a big mpg hit. i drive to work twice a week like 15 mile round trip so nbd. i got my truck for a camping vehicle so why not leave it on there. I would feel better if i got some of those security bolts though

Nice. yeah my bed rack sits about 1ft off the bedsides, then the tent on top.

My truck is my daily, so i guess leaving it on would be more impactful for me than say someone like you. I did pick up a set of the TuffStuff security bolts from their website as well so got that peace of mind.

there are a bunch of brands on Amazon. Just type in rooftop tent and I see Tepui, ARB, Smittybilt, Front Runner, Overland Vehicle Systems, etc.. Id go for a name brand one (including smittybilt) for your first one

I only put mine on for trips. I daily drive my truck, and use it a bunch for other things most weeks. Hoist system in the garage has been a game changer for the time and effort to mount and unmount then tent.

I leave it on all the time, unless I get a new frame or need to work on my bed rack and Im forced to take it off (both have happened). But I dont have room in my garage, so its kinda of a big effort to take it off.

My truck isnt really my DD anymore. I have a beater for that. Plus I work 2 miles from home. I only really drive the truck on the weekends to trips. But I also didnt buy the truck to get good mpg. And it has full armor, bumpers, regeared, and 35s.. so mileage isnt really a concern anymore. My tent is around 150lbs with the bedding that I leave inside. I have a bed rack too. The tent is about 4" above my Prinsu. But I think I achieved the streamline look that I was going after, so I am happy with what Ive created.

No worries, perhaps I should update the profile pic. Reminded me to update my build thread though so thanks actually. I want to start to document when I do things for maintenance purposes.

Its also helpful when people ask how many miles are on your tires, and you dont know when you put them on :anonymous:

Good idea, although I have a used set ATM. When I jump to 35s, I'll have to add.

Its not on the Prinsu. I was just using that as a height reference

Thats a great looking setup. Do you put boxes or anything on your prinsu? does that help with wind noise?

I have a similar height bed rack and my tent looks to be similar in thickness too. been interested in a roof rack to carry kayaks but haven't seen many pictures so i wasn't too sure.

Thats another project that I am working on. I might be getting a Plano rifle case for the roof. But only 1, and ill be using it for some small recovery gear. I also have a solar panel up there.

I want a kayak too, but since I cant put it on the roof, I might go with a folding setup like the Oru Kayak or this one

Not sure how you are searching but almost nothing shows up for me on FB marketplace...searched "RTT tent", "Rooftop Tent" and "RTT" and nothing...

*EDIT* - your screen cap didn't show up on original post for me, only when I quoted it. FYI, most of those are located in Quebec, its FB marketplace just showing you what's outside of the region you originally searched for.

Has anybody ever replaced the skin of the tent in a rooftop tent? I ended up getting mold in the tent somehow over winter and just got the lining to replace it but can’t seem to find an instruction manual. It’s the smittybuilt RTT and their customer service line has me waiting on the phone for over 30 minutes with no luck. Any advice is helpful!
