cab mount chop

i plan on 295/75/16's soon but i don't want to chop the cab mount. i know that some guys with even 285s chop the cab mount. but isn't that usually done for full articulation off road? because i won't be going off road in this truck until it's paid off. will it need to be chopped if i am just doing everyday driving on the street?

 

so you're saying that i can either chop the cab mount, or deal with not being able to make quite as sharp turns? but at any rate, i will be able to fit a 33.5x11.5 tire, i will just have to make one of those two decisions?

 

yes, i understand that if i was off roading, i would not even be asking about this. i would already have it done. i may look into shifting whole thing forward to help out some. driving a little different will be ok with me. and i will openly say that this is for aesthetics. at the age of 19, i want it to look good. i like that they are a tad bigger than the 285s. the 305s or true 33's would almost indefinitely require the cab mount chop.

 

Places can do the chop and you won't even notice it was done. I say do that.

 

yeah, i'm just nervous about hacking into the truck that much. the plastic in the fender is fine, but that kinda scares me. i think i will just mount them first, then if they rub too much for my liking, i will do something about it.

 

yeah, one day it will get done. but as for now, as a full time student and employee, it can wait until a can afford it and need it. as long as it will get me from point a to point b without any issues and looks good, i am fine with it. i really appreciate your rational advice, unlike most others on here who say shit like "you can only fit 265's without rubbing", "your truck will never stay on the road without new ucas", and stuff of that nature. i know that advice is truthful, but it's not always necessary or affordable. thanks man.

 

My question is why do you need to run that size tire? Why not 285?

 

i don't need to run this size. i openly said that it is for aesthetics because it is bigger. i'm 19 and want my truck to look good and be a little different than all the others. most other guys on 3'' have 285s.

 

Your talking about school and a job and paying the truck off and your concerned about "looking different"??? There are others ways to do that. This is a very small gain and I bet most people wouldn't notice the difference.

 

Just do the friggin' cab mount. You WILL have to trim with 295's. Most guys with 285's have to trim. I have had my cab mount done because of a slight rub with the 285's. If you didn't know, you wouldn't even be able to notice it. Cut, plate, weld, paint. You will save yourself from a lot of headaches by just cutting it.

 

i do have a job and go to school. i do want to pay the truck off early and i will/am. right now i am saving every penny, bringing my lunch to work, hitching rides, saving change, etc. when i get my taxes back, i will put that money and the money i have saved together to make a big payment on the truck and will do that until it's paid off. these tires i am talking about are a long way off in the future. the ones i have now are not but 9 months/ 13k miles old. i have plenty of life on them now and will use them until they run out. so these tires i am asking about are at least another year or two in the future. i wasn't about to go out and blow my money on them tomorrow. also, they will be significantly larger. i have 265/75/16 tires now, so the 295's will be about 2'' taller and over 1'' wider.

 

yeah, i know trimming will be necessary. but the cab mount is something i'm not crazy about getting into. i probably will. i am just asking questions now to understand things. actually doing this is down the road.

 

I have 305/70/16's on 3" of lift and I don't hit the body mount and I have no need to chop it and I have taken it offroad once so far with the 33's and sill haven't touched the mount.

It depends on many factors as to needing to chop it or not.

ok so check this out. My caster before i got my alignment was 4.1 and 4.2 and I never had a problem with rubbing the cab mount. After my UCAs with the extra caster built in and a proper alignment it went down to 2.2 driver and 2.6 passanger. I cant make U turns and on the drivers side because my caster is so low. So I think i found the answer

 

so i actually would have less issues without new ucas. as far as rubbing anyways
