Greetings...I was planning on going 4x4ing at Uwharrie for a week in March but that got rescheduled to September so I diverted by studies from off-roading to updating my knowledge of virology and cell physiology. A lot has happened since getting my DVM degree. I now have a much more up to date understanding of both areas plus the distribution and physiology of Coronavirus. I keep up on DNA research thru a friend that is an expert and that has kept me informed of the latest in vaccine development. I am a loner so this pandemic has not changed anything except wearing a mask and eye protection. I continue to go exploring with Taco, but my passion has always been science and engineering. I am much more interested in the forces involved in navigating rough terrain than the challenges involved. Thanks to @3pooches have I much better understanding of suspension design. My hang up now is understanding the interaction of roll center and center of gravity in 4x4 off roading.
    Everyone stay safe!

It's fairly new in their lineup. Likely why the steel rope version is so much less. But after you add on the aluminum fairlead, and fat link hook, and replace the cable, your back up there.

My second choice for the same amount of money is the Smittybilt XRC Gen 3 9.5k w/synth cable. The features of this are pretty damn good. The overload protection built into the controller is made for idiots like me.

I have heard though (from my friends in here) that if you can, go with 12k over the 9.5k / 10k just because more is more and it will work less, and work your charging system less.

    They are both equally priced.

If you have it though, Smitty does make a XRC Gen 3 12k w/Synth rope too. $742 with no deals.

It looks massive though. However, it says the controller can be relocated. Then there's the whole deal with some places only rate their bumpers for up to 10k lb winches. I have no idea what drives that except maybe the physical size of the winch itself?

Oh, yeah I didn’t either. I don’t think they’re owned by the same people or some larger corporation, but just grouped together to push each other’s products.
