how to mount roll bar?

Im looking to build a roll bar and put PIAAs on top but my question is how to mount it to my side rails on my bed?

 

i plan on mounting on the side rails, but how? im going to put a plate on the bottom of the bar to mount it but how could i get a bolt in the inside and just drill right through ?

 

Your best option would be to cut out squares in your bed and mount the bar directly to your frame, welding if possible. If you mount it to your bed rails, the bolts will eventually pull out, unless you literally just leave your truck parked and never touch it, ever. Like what Wolfpack was saying.

 

Or you could do like i did and strap it do your bed and put support bars into you D ring holes in the rear. Takes up some bed space but if you can fabricate it right looks bad ass.

What about a plate and attach it to the bed bolts at the cab.

 

That could work. The D rings were just much easier to remove. and since the front wasnt attached to the frame there wasnt any point in attaching the rear to the frame. Wont help in a roll over but I like the look and really lights up the road at night.

 

Yea arent the d-rings just to the bed? The bed bolts are to the frame. That's where I would put it.

This is a joke right? After you mount your roll bar you can grow some sideburns, get a big chip on your shoulder, and drive around looking like Lee Majors.

Better just to keep the wheels side down.

I dont actually plan on rolling the truck. Thats not the point of my roll bar, i just like the look of them hence the reason i put it onto the bed. Plus if you only bolt it to the frame it isnt going to do much under tension of a rollover you need to weld it and the material of the bar had better be pretty heavy duty.

 

I'm now looking at building more of a headache bar. just from my rails up across the top of the rear window and down back to the other rail. should i see if i can put a piece of steel underneath the side rails and use bolts to kind of like clamp it down?

 

Metalmiller is making custom headache racks you might want to look at his stuff. pretty impressive. It might give you an idea on how he mounts them and such.
