I'll be curious to hear how that goes. I've only tried cast iron once... a long time ago and it seemed to hold for my friend. I've got a busted knee crank on my mill that i've been waiting to tig (for when i have a tig! - TWO MORE DAYS!!!) but i'm fearful it's not going to be strong enough. I bought some schmancy filler i heard about on the internet....

You are going to be so stoked to have a big table. DRILL A LOT OF HOLES in it. I did 5/8" on 6" centers, and already wish i'd done them on 4 or 3" centers. I also saw a table that had a 6" notch cut out of one side and one corner to make corner or T-welds easier. Also thinking that would have been smart on my table...

    I'll be the opposite.

No holes in my fab table. I tack weld just about everything I work to the fab table.

You don't have a certiflat table, so I see all those holes as a waste of time as well as money.

Please feel free to a rebuttle.

Lol check the back of his neck for a bar code!

Edit:. Make your presence know before you pull down his collar.

I was welding and my wife gave me a quick kiss on the back of the neck.

I didn't know she came out to the shop and it scared the shit out of me.

I thought a bee had landed on me. I ended up swatting her across the room.

Needless to say, neither one of us was happy...

Yep, Porta Band for the win! I got no need for a chop saw or a base model band saw. My portable band saw has been amazing!

Yeah I don’t plan on drilling any holes. I’d considered buying one of those certiflat diy kits but after talking with my fab buddy who owns one of the expensive ones, and a few non holy tables, he said holy one was a waste of money for him.

I do however plan on adding a 2’ extension off the end with plasma slats in it. I thought that would be a cool addition. Just some angle iron with slit cut in it and rest 1/8” bar stock.

I saw this YouTube video where he built a pretty sweet rotating welding table. I may eventually copy this idea and do something similar when I’m able to properly outfit my garage.

That is pretty cool. That's a good idea for an old bearing. I may modify that and instead repurpose an old bearing to make a benchtop rotating stand for smaller stuff, maybe a 2' circle on a bearing.

I originally started welding on uneven floors and then moved to my wooden workbench with a small piece of sheet metal laid on top as a grounding plate. My third and current setup is a 2’x4’ certiflat table and the fab holes are amazing to work with. Not to mention the fact that I finally have a level space to weld on and don’t have to shim things to get level. I think the key is getting the right clamps for the type of fabrication that you’ll be doing which makes the holes actually useful. I made my own using the HF clamps and welding a bolt to the end which made them cheap enough to have a bunch of clamps for anything I might need, otherwise clamps get super expensive and I think thats the turnoff for a lot of people.
