How have things gone with this mod? I should be receiving all my ram mounts from the factory within a week and replicating your steps shortly. Anything you’d go back and do different?

No issues at all. The only thing changed since I took those pictures is the SimpleUSB adapter to provide power to the camera. At the time that I took those pics I had not received it yet. The camera is just there, out of the way and easily forgotten, except that I have it's lane-departure and following-to-close audible signal enabled. I only check the camera image periodically, just to make sure it hasn't been pushed out of position.

Very cool thanks for the info. I didn't realize it had those features. How well do they work? Does the camera just make a noise in these instances?

Yes, the Dashcam 56 does, I'm not sure about the other Garmins. Mine has 2 or 3 different tones for various alerts, and it flashes a brief message on the screen. But from driving position I can't see the screen anyway. The alerts can be turned off, but so far I've just left them on. If you need more closeup pics, just let me know. But it's pretty simple to put together after you get the holes drilled out.

Sounds good - ram mounts should ship out today/tomorrow so I’m hoping to have everything installed this weekend. Thanks again, these instructions have been super helpful to bake something into the existing GoPro mount. Looking forward to having it done.

Sorry for the late response, I got banned for posting a Jeffery Epstein didnt kill himself meme... It's clean and can't be seen from the drivers point of view. Zero issues so far with the black view; the main thing with dash cams is the memory card. Definitly go with a Samsung Endurance 128 gb. It's designed to have the data overwritten non stop for 5 years. It also comes with a 5 year warranty.

Huge props for this write-up here. Ended up being an incredibly simple and intuitive install, and works like a charm. I'll report back if there are any issues down the road, but fully expect this to be a lifelong solution w/ the quality of the camera and setup w/ the mounts. No obstruction of my line of sight, and very tight wire configuration by default - no way to really mess this one up.

    Thanks again Des

How'd you route the wires under the headliner.....did you have to remove it or were you able to tuck them under it?

Is that powered off the mirror?
Does that setup have parking mode?

I really want to get a front & rear setup with a parking mode.

yes its powered off the mirror. Not sure what parking mode is, but the camera will record for up to 1 minute after the car shuts off.

pushed it up under the headliner, only removed the side panels (A pillar & floor panels near the doors) to run the wires for the power and rear camera

I have the Garmin 66W in my Lexus and will be adding another one in my Limited when it comes in. I did not glue it to the window but ordered the $15 suction mount. It will occasionally release but I just lick my finger and wipe it and reapply. All the top cams have their pros and cons. I decided this was the one for me. It sure is small but makes a great picture. Built in GPS, lane departure, red light camera notification, etc. I mean the thing is as small as a box of matches.
