I picked up an Impact Driver ($20) in order to reuse those hard-to-free screws.

 

You can’t just jam it in, you’ve got to finesse it. Try this: Drive along in second gear 4hi, push down the clutch, shift the transmission into fifth gear. Move the transfer case shift lever partway, not far enough that it grinds, but right where you can just feel that. Slowly let the clutch pedal up while applying gentle pressure to the transfer case shift lever. Right about when the clutch starts to engage it will go into 4lo.

If you want to get fancy, press the gas pedal some to get your RPMs up while doing all that and it will go into 4lo at a higher speed.

if all that seems too complicated just stop before shifting from 4hi to 4lo. Going from 4lo to 4hi is pretty easy though, you should give it a try. I do it all the time. That’s with a manual transmission, you guys with automatics probably just have to stop every time.

 

Does anyone happen to know (without having to look) if these will work with manual hubs and also tundra brakes? Bonus points if you know the backspacing also (cause my 3rd gen wheels suck for that)

 

I can't speak to the manual hub part. The BS is 4.625", If you're trying to run 285's you'll need spacers. I am pretty sure they work with tundra brakes (231mm) but I haven't tested that out.

 

Interesting. Happen to know the amount of backspacing typically required to run 285's? That is likely the size I've landed on, but hoping to save some dough on rims and avoid spacers if I can. Final setup will be OME w/ 883's and SPC UCA's (nothing fancy).

I believe consensus is 4.5" but I'm sure others will chime in and there is a bunch of reading you can do on it. I tried to run 285 KO2s on those 5 star rims and rubbed the UCA just barely and definitely rubbed the frame at full lock. If you're gonna pop for new rims I think 4" or 4.25" is ideal for minimal rub and minimal trimming.

 

yeah my trd beadlocks are +10mm offset at 7.5 wide which i think is around 4.6 backspacing. rubs the frame at full lock but just barely so im guessing 4.25 is probably perfect. i also have JBL uca which are low profile so didn't rub there, but YMMV depending on your uca

Pretty sure they’ll work with Tundra brakes, I think @turbodb has them on his truck with tundra brakes

 

Backspacing made them a no-go sadly. But thanks. Open to suggestions on 4.25 back space wheels that fit tundra brakes and manual hubs

 

Don't know of too many wheels with 4.25" BS.
Typically only see 4.5, 4, 3.75, & 3.5" BS wheels. Hope you find some that fit your needs though!

 

All SCS wheels are available with 4.30" BS, will fit Tundra brakes, and shouldn't be a problem for manual hubs.

 

Yeah me either. Thus the search. I figure perhaps 4 for more options on BS but wonder how much of a difference that really makes.

 

4" BS is all good. I have 16x8 SCS wheels with 4" BS wrapped in 285's. If you're willing to spend a little more go for the SCS wheels, they're rad.

They have 4.75 backspace though. I run them with Tundra brakes and manual hubs. I also run spacers now, but the center bore hole is big enough it doesn't have a problem with the hubs.

I'd recommend a max of 4" backspacing with that setup.
I went with these that have 4.5" and rubbed the frame at full lock both sides so had to put my spacers back on.

Has anyone gone from OME Dakar’s with the extra leaf to Allpro Expos? I’m sagging in the rear pretty bad with a camper shell, sleeping platform and dual swing out.

Seems like they should help since the Dakar’s are 2.25” lift with +200 and the Expos are 3” with +400.
