Differences between the 3.5L used in various vehicles?

You mean different cams for more torque? Too lazy to check but usually when a truck and car share the same engine there will be small differences. Mainly longer intake runners and cams for more low end but sacrificing top end.

 

Unreliable and constant issues. Some of the constant ones were the CPS, the valve seats, the head gaskets and the belt tensioner. All known to have issues yet never fixed by Chrysler.

I had 1 that went into lemon law before 20k miles. My brother in law had one that needed to be completely replaced before 75k

 

You know Toyota detuned the Tacoma when this has 300hp+ with the same engine

 

Correct me if I’m wrong but I think tacoma is different. Tacoma engine has the Atkinson cycle while the rest doesn’t

 

Atkinson is simulated by the engine tune and VVTi-W controls.

Tacoma's aren't very "heavy duty" shit the Sienna can probably tow just as much.

 

The pentistar oil pressure sensor is an 800 repair. Had the entire valve train on my jeep go. I do my own oil changes every 5k miles and use mobel 1. Never again. Jpn owned american built im game. American big 3. Less i have a need for a large truck, burned to many times.

In the late 90's the Dakota had 6 engine options, from a 2.5L I4 to a 5.9L V8. Most were derived from engines of the 60' and 70's.

It's economics, engines these days are incredibly complex and expensive to develop. So are the vehicle platforms. That trend while continue as turbo charging becomes more prevalent. Same engine, adjust the boost to suite the vehicle.

 

It is more heavy duty. The crankshaft and a few other things inside the engine are different that those found in Camry, etc...

Ram 1500 with a 5.7 Hemi, that is a good engine. It’s powerful, efficient for a big V8, and has been around a long time.

 

What really makes me wonder is why the Lexus variants take premium. They squeeze out a whole 10 more hp than the Camry.

Chrysler: Our engines

Not so much, rear exhaust manifold bolts every 80k, a cam and a few lifters every 100k, give or take.

 

It’s usually the same engine platform but they tend to swap components. Different heads, pistons, etc to get a combination that is suited to each vehicle without completely redeveloping a new engine.

 

I thought so too, until I did a lot of research and they have a defect of a weak engine part (lifter bearing perhaps sorry my brain is failing with the exact name) that then scores a trench in a cam lobe.
