Finally mounted my hi-lift after years of just letting it flop around the bed at will. Slides in, no tools needed to remove. I use mine all the time so it's nice to have quick easy access to it.

x2, i run 285s with the Toytec 620lb springs (similar to the 883s but they are just a bit taller and they are stiffer). the wheels i run are Pro-Comp 7069s with 4" BS. i just kiss the frame at full lock with these tires, but i've got plenty of clearance with the UCA. i certianly wouldnt go any less. IMHO 285s with 4" of BS on an 8" wide wheel provide the perfect amount of offset. they widen the stance a bit to compensate for the higher COG (and look better;)), but they also stay tucked in far enough that they don't interfere with the fenders and they don't kick up too many rocks towards the body. i was able to clear them with some plastic removal, hammering the pinch weld, and i had to loose the front mud flaps.

Thanks for the information. The only wheels I've found that tick all my boxes are the F5's from Stealth Custom. But they don't offer it in a 4" BS, so I am considering the 3.5" BS 16x8, as those are the only wheels they offer that fit over manual hubs without machine work (adding additional cost)

Here is a link to the wheels. Question is, would .5" enough to make look bad / handle weird? This is one area I have almost no experience in so am learning a ton as I go. I for sure don't want half my tire sticking out the side of my truck like you see some do (no saying anything is wrong with that, just not for me).

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
The center bore is not big enough to allow the hub body to pass through, on some wheels.

you should be fine with 3.5" bs. my only concern would be how many rocks the tires would kick up. it'd look fine i think but you'll deff be loosing the mud flaps with the 285s so if the wheel sticks out more, then you'll be looking at more potential for rock damage.

yeah, on my old truck i ordered a set of wheel spacers from allpro to get some new wheels to clear my calipers. they were supposed to be lug centric (to clear the manual hubs) but they wouldn't fit over the hubs. sent those back and cancelled the wheel order. figured it was getting to be more trouble than it was worth.

@osterhagen SCS also makes the Ray 10, which IMO looks a whole lot better than the f5. more importantly though, they make it in a 16x8 with 4" of bs for the tacomas. not sure if they work with the manual hubs but if the f5s do then these should:notsure:

For our trucks (lifted with oversized tires) I think 3.5 backspace is the perfect spot to be in. I run 3.5 back space... you would just be doing it without spacers (which is better anyway)

Yeah that is what made sense anyway. People with 4 say they still barely touch sometimes depends on tire. So this gives me more wiggle room anyway. Thinking of going with Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac's in 285/75/16. Still looking into tires though anyway. Won't be buying them till next week still :)

    1. Clothes
    2. Bedding - blanket, fitted sheet for blow up mattress, pillow.
    3. Cooking/Kitchen stuff
    4. Shower / Outhouse tent.
    5. My sleeping buddy, Mr. Heater, propane tanks.
    6. Campfire chair - Go Broncos! If only it has the cool Kings shocks like @Squeaky Penguin's chair.
    7. Shitter.
    8. Tent
    9. 5 gal. Water for shower - although @johntoyota likes to use it along with the shower head to douse campfires.
    10. Tarp for tent, air mattress and 2 air pumps (battery and foot), shower head with battery operated pump.
    11. Recovery gear - 5 gal gas, air compressor, tools, straps, shackles.

The extended cab has a plain 48 qt. Coleman cooler, 5 gal. Rubbermaid water cooler, and a soft sided cooler that I use to store dry food. Coolers are strapped in with the seatbelts.

Yes and no. I've seen a forum post where it said they fit, but I emailed the company directly and was told the F5's are the only ones that will fit without modification.

    Here is the thread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/1st-gen-manual-hubs-with-scs-wheels.612074/#post-20741360

Here was their response via email:

"The only wheel model that is a direct fit to your 1st gen Tacoma with Asin manual hub his our F5 model. Our other model with center caps including the BR6 model will not.

The BR6 model has a small lip inside the center bore that the cap snaps into. This 1/8" lip will need to be machine off for it to fit without interfering with the front hub. Many of our previous customers have done this to the SR8/Ray10 model with all positive results. "

The thread makes it sound like it's just the bigger hubs on other Toyota models that may be an issue, but I don't want to find out the hard way.

Yeah this is just a camping / 4-wheeling and exploring truck so nothing fancy. It's already got plenty of pin strips, ding and scuffs with 300k :)

So if those are the only downsides, I think I will be good with that.

yeah, not a major concern. my truck is my wheeling/camping rig but it's also my dd and it was a super clean 1-owner truck when i got it, so i'm a little bit more careful than most as far as keeping it looking nice:D. once i pass the 200k mark maybe i'll stop caring:rolleyes:. i think that in your position i would go with the F5s. they are still decent looking wheels, and are lighter than the Ray 10s i think. i just perfer the way that the Ray 10s look:thumbsup:. IMHO it's not worth having to take a brand new, $800+ set of wheels, to a machine shop to be turned down. if i'm going to spend that much on wheels they better fit right outta the box.

I have the 3.5" BS F5's and they look great imo.
Before I didn't have any flares and they did kick up a good amount of dirt and rocks. The first sign of any sort of mud or clay, it would end up all over the sides.

Then I picked up a set of 01-04 flares and that helped a lot with that. Still kicks stuff up, but it's a lot better. I think they really help fill out the body better too with the wider stance.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

If it's your daily Duratracs are great. They last really well, and I've gotten good traction in mud, snow, dirt and rocks. I really like them.

I am, however, thinking about getting another set of wheels and mount them with Cooper ST MAXX for trail, and keep my Duratracs for daily.

I was looking at those and the Yoko Geolandars also. It's not a daily driven rig, which is great. So no need to keep anything to tame on there. That being said I will be traveling a few hundred miles on blacktop sometimes to get where I am going to explore or camp. But that won't really matter unless they are super loud or something.

ST Maxx aren't super loud, I just would rather daily All Terrains than mud terrains. If my truck was not a daily, no question, I'd be running ST Maxx right now.

My buddy @MattJakobs just mounted 35 inch ST Maxx on his 3rd gen T4R and I'm SUPER jealous.
