What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I have the 3.5" BS F5's and they look great imo.
Before I didn't have any flares and they did kick up a good amount of dirt and rocks. The first sign of any sort of mud or clay, it would end up all over the sides.

Then I picked up a set of 01-04 flares and that helped a lot with that. Still kicks stuff up, but it's a lot better. I think they really help fill out the body better too with the wider stance.

 

If it's your daily Duratracs are great. They last really well, and I've gotten good traction in mud, snow, dirt and rocks. I really like them.

I am, however, thinking about getting another set of wheels and mount them with Cooper ST MAXX for trail, and keep my Duratracs for daily.

I was looking at those and the Yoko Geolandars also. It's not a daily driven rig, which is great. So no need to keep anything to tame on there. That being said I will be traveling a few hundred miles on blacktop sometimes to get where I am going to explore or camp. But that won't really matter unless they are super loud or something.

 

ST Maxx aren't super loud, I just would rather daily All Terrains than mud terrains. If my truck was not a daily, no question, I'd be running ST Maxx right now.

My buddy @MattJakobs just mounted 35 inch ST Maxx on his 3rd gen T4R and I'm SUPER jealous.

 

i know a few people who run the geolanders, all of them are very happy with them. they are a mud tire and behave as such but do better than most in snow/ice and rain. i've heard them described as the poor mans toyo M/T. I won't be running them anytime soon as i need the snow and ice performence, especially as i'm planning on moving to Montana in a couple months. i'm running the BFG KO2s at the moment but if my truck was a dedicated wheeling rig i'd probably tub for 35s and run a M/T.

I always get the Pro and Maxx mixed up. To me Maxx should be the top of the line badass. But it's Pro that's better.

My son runs the Maxx on his 2nd gen and really likes them.

 

if i can afford it, i may go with the Maxx in a 255/85R16 when the time comes for new tires. i perfer a taller skinnier tire for daily driving and they dig better in mud and snow. they only fail in sand from what i understand... but i don't see too much of that. wanted to go with them the first time around but they were so expensive.

But in reality, I haven't washed that thing in like 9 months. And the lighting is hiding the body damage on the driverside and there's more body damage on the other side. I think the camera and lighting were just being nice to me that day since I just put on the 35s in that picture

 

So not to harsh on your buzz but I have both sides ditch light brackets from CBI (the passenger side with the snorkel was a major PITA to install).
I also had a firestick 4' antenna with flexy spring installed on that bracket until I went to Moab.
The antenna would whip so hard that it hit my windshield midway on the antenna, not the tip.

I switched to Rago Tailgate mount. and it was 20%

 

Yeah, they're definitely not cheap by any means. All said and done, 5 of these were around $1800

yeah, my budget for wheels and tires was around $1500, the tires alone were that much when i accounted for tax and mounting fees (i think they were around $265 per tire). i've been happy with the 285s so far. when i need new tires i'll have more budget to spend on tires alone, instead of having to spread it between wheels and tires

 

I think it'll be fine. This antenna is nothing like a Firestik. If it causes me problems, I'll change it up at a later date. But I'm gonna rock it like this for now. Appreciate the help though, I'll bookmark the site for later use!
