Hopefully they were just minor injuries. I know anytime I'm working underneath my truck and have that evil split second thought of, "...what if this thing were to fall on me right now?..." I then find myself thinking that hopefully it kills me as I'm not sure I want to survive being a crushed vegetable the rest of my life.

Amusing how buying cheap Chinese shit goes out of fashion all of a sudden that cheap Chinese shit might fail on you and cause injury.

Not sure what everybody thought they were buying from HF, but good you’re reminded, again.

Buyer beware applies to all things HF that carry load, whether by weight or through electricity.

I'm not taking sides as I have spent waaaay more $ with HF than I have with SO. But what you said isn't true; right or wrong, Snap on wasn't "caught", they sued HF.

Do you have proof the SO and HF are made on the same assembly line? Do you have proof they are identical? I mean real proof. Not "well, they look the same"

Yes, they are very similar in appearance; it's easy for HF to copy something as this is their business model. And I'm sure that was part of Snap On's suit- that HF was implying that it was the same product in their ads- just a different color. "They both look the same, just different colors, so....(they're identical) " There are slight external differences in the construction- they are NOT the same. But yes, they are 95% the same cosmetically.

The HF uses an O-ring on the main ram- I've seen one online that's been dismantled. This is planned obsolesce vs spending another 50 cents on a u-cup seal. And why would they do this? Because they know that when the jack fails a homeowner in 10 years, who uses it only every few months, that they'll come back and buy another one. HF could spend 50 cents and make a quality product, but they wont.

I'm not a HF hater, but their jacks suck. I've recycled two of their floor jacks that leaked down after 5-10 years; and at least 3 bottle jacks in my 12T press over 25 years - that leaked fluid. In comparison, I have a generic Taiwan bottle jack from 1985 that does not leak down and does not leak fluid- it's lasted 3X as long as anything I've purchased from HF. So HF can make a quality jack if they wanted. But they won't; which is why I'll never buy another jack from them. I realize that it would probably be cheaper for me to buy one of their floor jacks every 5-10 years but I spent 2-3X as much to buy a Hein Werner that uses a proven 50 year old design with u-cup seals. And parts are available if it has an issue.

I have been looking for quite a while for a set of stands. I wanted Aluminum but have not been able to find a set in 6 ton. The problem with most of the 6 ton stands is they are so damn heavy to lug around.

I ended up spending a little(lot) more and bought a pair of ESCO stands. 6 ton(3 each like most pairs), light weight 11Lbs and are a hole and locking pin.

I had a pair of HF 6 ton stands that were about 15 years old and never had a problem with them but gave them away when I sold my Bronco and bought a set of 3 ton aluminum stands that I still have. they worked on the 4Runner but I wanted something a little more substantial.

I guess some opinions differ but I always thought the point of HF is that they specialize in low-end cheap shit that is so cheap you can afford to buy stuff that would otherwise be too expensive to get a good one for one-time use. E.g. 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 in torque wrenches for $30 or the paint spray gun I just got for $9.99 that isn't bad. I just wouldn't buy parachutes, seat belt mechs, scuba gear, replacement airbags, nor jackstands from there.

The icon wrenches are trying to go a new direction, but that is still up for eval to me.

you're right, to an extent, but to say you can't buy any of one type of item from them because it's obviously junk isn't correct. I have the jackstands with the locking pin, which are 99% identical to every other jackstand with the locking pin. Other companies are selling the same chinese "junk" as HF, with a different color and logo on them. I just can't stop laughing at this thread lol

Perhaps the difference of opinion comes from the assumption that if you don't buy chinese junk from HF one would just buy the same chinese junk from another place. I have bought stuff from HF since 1988 and have a pretty good feel for what I am personally comfortable with buying from there, for instance about 10 pages back there is a discussion about how the HF jackstands are too sketch for some, including me, and that call turned out to be fairly prescient of the current situation. I am not seeing how calling the jackstands out as questionable, correctly, before they are recalled is 'wrong' as you describe. Instead, I hope it was helpful.

no, I'm saying calling out ALL jackstands that they have is wrong. I don't use the ones without the locking pin no matter the brand, unless it's something lightweight like my mower. HF sells ones with the locking pin. HF also sells the ones on recall, the junk design just like other companies sell.
