What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I wanted driving lights that didn't stick out at all. I wanted a 'clean' install that is almost invisible.

 

Not bad at all. Any room to set them back just a touch and put a thin mesh grill over them? Might look a bit more clean. Though this is really nice looking

 

anybody have thoughts on what UCAs i should go with? the Total Chaos or Icon Uniball ones seem to be the gold standard, but the SPCs are very popular, much less expensive, and seem to do the job fine. i've also seen the allpro ones which look like the TC or Icon ones but are around the same price as the SPCS.

 

My opinion is there is no reason not to go with SPC. It makes alignment stupid easy. Has just as much articulation as a uniball. Sealed joint from the elements. I've beat the hell out of them with no issues.

 

I mocked a few different positions, the cleanest look was when you got the face of the lights as visually close where the cut out pieces of grill would have been. My original thought was to recess deeper, and glue the cut out pieces of grill to the light covers, so with the covers on the lights 'disappear'. But the lights that deep just looked like they were too far in. What I went with seems to hit the sweet spot for function and form.

 

SPC or JBA. If you don't need the adjustability of the most recent SPCs, get the "Mevotech" branded ones off RockAuto for cheaper. They are the previous model of SPC.

 

You're not camping until you have a camp rocking chair with Kings.

 

The adjustability should still be the same (as far as I know), it's just the newer ones are forged arms instead of the tubular design the older model has.

I have the older tubular SPCs from about 3 years ago, they've held up great since then...no issues with 'em. They're the ones sold under Mevotech now, really good deal for the previous SPC design

 

that's kind of what i was figuring. as long as i can get a proper allignment with the truck and get full travel out of them then i will be happy.

Yep, although I don't know the part numbers for our trucks off the top of my head but that's the brand. Just rebranded older style SPCs

 

My son is running the Mevotechs on his T4R. They are legit.

 

sweet! they're going on the list!. they'll be in line after new canopy windows and timing belt funds. the added downtravel might even make my ride a bit better too! although i'm not holding my breath since i'm running springs that are stiff as hell. hopefully i'll be able to get them before i have to move in august.

 

haha! they've even got the SPC branding still on them! those should work great! like i said, i've got some other stuff on tap first but those are deff on the list. i'll need new boots though soon so idk, but maybe i'll just get my old ones resoled, spray a can of waterproofing on them, and call it a day

 

replaced the radiator cap. stock cap was weeping coolant everywhere

 

I have been running JBA's and they have been great. The selling point for me was the ability to do a trail repair from ANY parts store if I needed to. But if you never break parts, then this is a mute point.
