Is there any full-size truck other than Tundra that is actually reliable?

200K really isn’t that much. My dad put 234k on a Silverado and never once changed the oil. Motor eventually blew up. He dropped a new motor in it for like $1500 and it still going (my uncle has it now).

Good point. You think they would change, but have no incentive to. What ever the actual numbers are, seeing the old domestics still on the road no matter what's keeping them on the road will leave a bit of skepticism of who is the most reliable.

I think Ram makes such great looking trucks. I would love a Rebel but every time I consider it I just read the Ram forums. The lifter cam problems are amazing. So many, the hemi seems like a time bomb that could go off at 10k or 150k miles. I am waiting for 4th gen Tundra. I will be the guinea pig first year buyer.

Whatever you do, don’t buy Ford.

My 2018 has been a nightmare, and dealership service has been horrific. 42 days out of service so far. Currently have a pending civil case against FoMoCo.

I have a 2017 Interceptor SUV for work and it’s a POS too. Front end falling apart and transmission valve body replaced before 25k miles.

If you listen to the internet, everything sucks, and it should all be burned to the ground.....

I've had Chevys that were great, but I don't like their car-like ride.

I've had Fords that were great, 1 in particular that I've owned twice and that old 7.3 would tow a car on a trailer at 80 and still get decent mileage. At least it would get better that the Titan.

I've had 2 Titans, 1 of them I kind of liked and the other wasn't great at all.

Never had a Tundra, though I would suspect that based on used Tundra prices, the are like the rest of the Toyota fleet and go forever as well as holding value.

Never had a Dodge/Ram truck can't speak to those.

I know that modern manufacturing and modern engines/transmission are far better than they have ever been. All manufacturers have their problems here and there (6.0 Ford PS is a great example) but the long story is, if you do proper PM you should get a good service life out of almost any vehicle.

If MPG is a concern, I can say that Chevy/GM and Ram get the best full size mileage (with V8's) but not without the trickery of MDS and 4 cylinder mode for cruising. The new F150 with the baby power stroke gets crazy good mileage and still tows like a beast. The Ford Ecoboost, at least from people I know that have had them, doesn't really do much better on MPG than the 5.0.

Though the Tundra does suck gas, I applaud Toyota for not introducing such trickery as MDS since that just adds another failure point. Still baffled why Japanese manufacturers that already have diesels overseas don't bring them here though.

The 2003 Dodge 2500 with CTD and 4x4 is still on the road. Sold it to my step-father and he is still using it as a daily driver at 300k. The only significant issues have been wear parts like low pressure fuel pumps with the low sulfur diesel. A control module on the transmission failed and was replaced. Otherwise original engine, transmission and axles. No major work. That was the first year for the 3rd Gen trucks with a new transmission and axle design...go figure.

Having owned a Chevy 1500 that caught fire in the engine, a Chevy blazer that crapped out a transmission and a camaro ( got totaled in a hail storm/ tornado 4 weeks after buying it) I just don’t like chevy’s.

have owned 3 f150s from an old work truck to a brand new lariat. None of them ever gave me a hiccup of a problem other than normal maintenance.

owning 2 Toyotas again no major issues I couldn’t fix on my own.

My son owns a dodge truck and I have been chasing electrical issues for months now But other than that it’s a solid truck. And I’m pretty sure the electrical is come down to a botched stereo install by the previous owner. At least I hope.

Buddy of mine owns a 3500HD that he's had to have in 6 times for the inside falling apart. In like 6 months.

For an 80k truck it should stay together a bit better than that I would think. Runs great though!

Come on, 234k miles on factory fill oil? It would have burned up long before. Maybe he got his change because he kept putting in quarts of new oil?

UPS Trucks at work have the GM 6.0 V8. Mechanics say they are reliable engines.

Our 2010 F-150 has been good with 120k miles and just regular maintenance. Other than the $4000 transmission rebuild. I've heard horror stories about the EcoBoost though.

My dad has a 2001 Chevy 1500 that has been amazingly reliable despite him using the cheapest oil and filters for years and filling the oil pan with crud. 180K miles and still nice. The Chevy front suspension has the most stock travel. Just needs a coil over conversion.

I've been missing my full size Ram 1500 for the past year at times when I just don't have enough room inside the Taco. Mainly on days where it is raining (no tonneau) and kids with lots of bags. Anyway, to answer your question, I had a 2004 Ram 1500 with the 5.7 Hemi. I bought it new, and traded last year with 148,000 miles on it. I honestly had no major issues with it. Biggest thing was a leaking rack/pinion at around 130,000 miles. It was a very good truck and I should have kept it. I was probably going to have to address an exhaust manifold gasket leak, but I have no real complaints with the truck!

the old late 90s diesels were so good. I guess everyones diesels back then were pretty amazing.
I never really had issues with any of the hemis I owned, however the rest of the truck was falling apart by 110k miles lol

Yea pretty much. He was just dump a quart in every now and then. Either way, he wasn't changing the oil every 3k miles like many people.
