It is very underappreciated. most people don't realize everything that goes on behind the scenes to keep everything smoothly, trying to integrate new hardware without fucking anything up and frantically trying to figure out what the problem is when something shits the bed. My buddy is a senior network engineer at a fairly large place here in reno, so i get to hear about the 2am "everything just went to shit, we need you here now" phone calls
