Have you thought about using a French Cleat to hang your project?

That's probably how I'll hang the whole thing on the wall, but mounting the shelves cleanly is proving to be a pain in the ass.

OK.. is there a hole through the background where the shelves are? L brackets would be great for that. but you could also do a french cleat to hold the shelves to the background

That was what I was getting to in the second clip... putting an L bracket through the back of the wall hanger through a hole and mounting it to the back of it and to the bottom of the shelf. I dunno if there's enough room for a french cleat on a 1/2" thick shelf that will also be strong enough to hold up some weight.

Go with your L bracket on that.

10-4, thanks for your help! I'll see what I can find out there. Gonna try to do some work on it this weekend if I get some spare time.

If you make the back piece out of plywood.. it's not going to burn pretty like pine would.. something to consider for that part.

Yeah, I keep going back and fourth on how I want the finish to look. I'll probably make two versions and keep whichever one I like best and donate the other

The main issue I have with using pallet wood is my shelving design is all over the place and my fall between some seams.

    My current design:

It's a bit random, but this fits the most bottles within the "border" of the outline. If I had a bunch of Wyoming distillery bottles this would be a lot easier.

Yeah... I modeled some Texas distillery bottles to see how they'd fit together. The two smaller empty shelves would host distillery glasses or similar type items.

    Edit: I can't spell.

Spelling is overrated ... and I'm totally digging the design still.. It's likely going to be some trial and error with the process and finish. Excited to see how this turns out! Also.. I feel like you can squeeze some shot glasses in over in the El Paso area

There we go... lined it up with the main shelf, too. I imagine I'll have french cleats on the back of wall hanger directly behind the top 12" shelf, the main 24" shelf, and the lower 16" shelf. Should be plenty secure on the wall there, and spread it across a few wall studs... think that'll work out?

I think that will be perfect! What is the wall construction that our hanging it on? By that I mean drywall, open , plaster and lathe? Hopefully finding the studs won't be too much of a pain.

Drywall. I'll get my wife to locate the studs since she's a pro stud finder :cookiemonster:

So to hide L brackets completely you have to cut the drywall over the studs. Mount heavy duty steel to the stud put the drywall back patch and paint. Then you slot the wood either with a long router bit or cut a slot out then reattach the a lot you cut out and fill/sand seams.

Finally got started on my shelf. Got these cabinet sides pocket hole screwed and glued together to get a nice 48"x48" canvas. It's too gd hot and humid to do this in the garage so I didn't get the boards as flat as I'd like, so I guess I get to do some extra sanding to flatten things out. I'm going to try torching some scrap pieces I got to see how this could look when all is said and done.
