What does the service entail? Oil change and nuts/bolts check or are they checking valves too?

Dealer oil change is probably $100 alone, plus then three or so hours of labor checking fasteners @$120 hour. Your quote doesn't surprise me at all, honestly.

My vote is buy a haynes manual or grab a copy of the service manual and do it yourself. Most of it is just checking bolt torques. Haynes does a good job of pointing out weird things, like head bearings, where for instance on my f800 is tighten to 40nm, swing through three complete turns, loosen and retorque to 20nm plus 90 degrees or some weird shit like that. Working on bikes is often easier than doing the same things in a truck. Valves on a Harley have to be easier than the valves on my parallel twin where you have to remove 40% of the bike to get to the valve cover and need a special tool to pull the coils.

It's an oil change plus pretty much what you said. I linked to a dealers service interval thing. @GHOST SHIP gave me the FSM in a .pdf so I could use that. I've just heard that this is the "most important" service on Harley's so I kind of want to take it in to have it done to make sure nothing gets missed for peace of mind seeing as this is my first street bike. I plan on doing everything myself after. I've been calling around a few other shops. I got 1 shop that said $460 and I'm waiting to hear back from another actual HD dealer and then 2 other shops on a quote. I was expecting it to be around $400 so if I find something closer to that I'll probably just take it in and pony up for that to know it's been done right.

Fair enough, $500 is pretty cheap for piece of mind, I get it!

    Edit:

This was the first half of me changing my steering head bearings last winter. I don't know if I ever puckered quite as hard at the start of a ride. I kept waiting for the front end to fall off 'cause I had messed it up somehow.

Installed the Rogue Rider LED turn signal lights on my street bob yesterday. ( bike wheel is straight for photos)

Enjoying the blacked out look way more than the stock orange covers you get.

Pretty easy install. Takes a little work to get the new covers on, but as far as the light itself goes... just turn counter clockwise to release the old light... then clockwise to install the new Rogue Rider light.

Small mod. But I like it. 79$ with free shipping. Ordering the rear set today and will update when here.

Nice, looks way better than those orange atrocities. I still want to get some of those super slim ones though to replace both the fronts and rears. I'm done with the shrek ears lol

Just called a shop and they said the service would be around $300. That might be the winner. Gonna go check out the shop this weekend perhaps see if they look legit.

So I called another HD dealer. For a synthetic is $433 and regular oil is $407. I'd much rather pay that, only issue is they're a 40 min drive minimum. Fack.

    What'd you pay for yours?

I can't decide if I should take it up to that dealer. If there was shit to do around there I'd have no problem going there, but it's such a trek and it's just a shitty area. I used to work up there so I know it sucks lol.

Let me know. I gotta decide what the hell I'm gonna do lol. The one shop quoted me at around $300, but I kind of would prefer going to an actual dealer for this service, but I also don't want to drive 40 mins to get it done and then sit around waiting for it to be done lol
