Topper Manufacturer help

How can I find out what brand of topper I have? The topper has no manufacturer badge or stickers anywhere. I have found a barcode with a number and a sticker with a manufactured date with other numbers, possible serial number. Thanks for help

 

Try googling the numbers, and pics always help. I'm sure someone here would know where it came from if we could see it.

 

I have googled the numbers and have not found anything. I have started emailing companies. Here is a pic of the cap

 

Uhm. Can I ask why? It's just a topper. Is there something wrong with it?

 

Other than leaking, no problems. Was looking at a rooftop tent and was curious about weight.

I got nothing. I just sleep in my bed cap. Those RTT's are too much work for me.

 

Most fiberglass caps have similar weight ratings and can handle a RTT. That said, I’m not a MechE but I’d be more concerned about your roof rack....can’t imagine having the rack mounted on the sides of the shell on those little clips will give you the weight support you need.

I have seen Tacomas with topper that have tent mounted on. They have no problem.

I haven't seen that rack mounted like that.

I understand.. I have seen the ones with mounted on top instead of mounted on the sides like yours. That's first time for me to see that. I don't know if the rack can handle the tent like that. You might have to take it to the topper shop and have them mount the rack on top instead.

 

That’s a good point, I just may have to do that.

 

Those toppers probably have a reinforced roof and supports though. A regular fiberglass shell is probably not rated high enough.

 

I have the same style rack in my topper. It is my understanding that the style like this can carry more payload than the track kind that is in top of the topper. Not sure about the facts on this.

I personally would not trust a rtt on a topper. Again, my own opinion. I certainly would be watching my bedsides for warpage and would want bedside reinforcers.

 

I get that but I wasn't talking about the topper... I'm talking about rack mounts that are placed on the sides. May not have enough support to hold the tent with people inside.

 

I agree and my quote was referencing your first sentence that I quoted, I should've edited it I guess instead of just hitting the quote button.

Also, OP may not know though as there are no comments here about the internal structure HD caps typically have vs. a regular cap.

This ^^^ I'd be worried about weight on those side mounted bar holders. I have a Leer with the rails on the top, no internal capper reinforcement and have never had issue with my fat ass and some gear in the tent. I do have some bed stiffeners but that's honestly going to be needed on the taco bed regardless IMO.

If you want to put a tent on that I'd suggest getting some rails mounted to the top instead of the sides.
