Is there any full-size truck other than Tundra that is actually reliable?

I took a long look at buying another full size pickup before making a decision to get the tacoma, solely for its mid-size and its resale value. Gotta admit of all the full size trucks, the ram had the nicest interior.

The water pump on rear wheel drive Ecoboosts is fine. Only the front wheel drive is behind the timing cover.

The turbos are fine on the Ecoboosts and rarely fail. When they do it's usually a tuned truck pushing them last their limits. Also pretty rare for an engine to let go... They did/do have issues with timing components though.

Of course its easier to lift the body. Why do you think the factory does it that way? Doesn't mean it's the only way.

 

If 100 Aliens just came to Earth and drove the new Ram and the new Tundra, they would pick the Ram 100 out of 100. Toyota is way behind with regards to interior quality, comfort, tech, etc. Even the Tacoma, which I am generally happy with, has a very poor quality/outdated interior and tech. I got the Toyota because of long term quality and resale. Yes, Im sure on an individual basis, you will find folks who have bulletproof Chevys and crappy Toyotas. However the "Law of Large Numbers" is clear that Toyota trucks are the dependability leader.

 

The last good BMW was the e46 M3. Everything that went wrong was easy to DIY and mechanical.

From there I would say they are less reliable than cars with crap reputations.

Everything that goes wrong is electrical etc. Just absolute garbage.

 

.buddy of mine has the RAM 2500, and it feels so nice inside vs the Taco, but I cringe when I see the stupid knob that replace the gear lever.

 

I’ve had two of the E46 M3’s and you are correct. Easy to fix and DIY. Interestingly enough, the E90 M’s were even better and more reliable. I can’t speak to the F80’s but I would love to get one. I had ONE electrical problem in my E36 M and it was blowing the brake switch button. I finally boing an OEM one and never had the issue again.

I think my whole point is that these trucks aren’t bad. there is nothing that has gone wrong that would make me sell it (although the leaky third brake light on a two year old truck had me roll my eyes), but Toyota quality is just “average” now. OP has great options out there that will give him the same reliability or better

 

100%!! My buddy has a rebel, and that is honestly one of the best looking trucks (inside and out) that I have seen in awhile.

 

My neighber still has a 76 chevy truck that he just adds oil and it still working. Dude is in early 80's must be a generation thing ... he swears oil change is unneccessary. He does service new cadilac though.

 

$4000 repair bills on failed turbos on the Ecoboost V6s. Again I saw several. Once out of warranty you dont want these things. I saw several shocked what the hell faces when customers got hit with that.

 

I tried, so hard to find a clean low mileage one or one where the frame isnt rotted away.

 

It’s hard. Mine was a wreak, but solid bones from Florida.

Although my 01 tundra had almost 300k miles, and a tired driver side power window motor the rest of the truck was in very good shape. Frame was sound with mild surface rust thanks to fluid film every year since the 3rd year owned. Independent garage dealer here spotted it and snatched it up. I really didn't know it was worth much at the time. I took his $5k check, and ran all the way to the bank. Now i'm regretting it some.

 

How come the 2500 Power Wagon has such a lower tow capacity and payload than the Laramie?
How do people afford these trucks?
My Tacoma gets about 20-22 mpg for my commutes and I feel like i could get that mileage from a more comfortable full size. Is that true?

I’m trying to make the same decision now. I’m on my second Tacoma in a year and I just can’t get comfortable with it. If you’re looking for style and the latest and greatest technology don’t bother with a Tundra. If you’re looking for functionality and reliability get one. The Tundra is the only one without auto start/stop and/or cylinder deactivation. I have a few coworkers with GM products. One just bought a Silverado last week and he didn’t even have it a day and it was already back at the dealership having the steering column replaced. Another bought a GMC and it would just randomly stall going down the highway. Another one was close to having his purchased back under the lemon law. They are also under constant recall. The Ford have the aluminum body and just seem flimsy. You can also read some horror stories about the eco boost engines. The Rams have been known for years for electrical problems.

 

Between my brother and dad they have had about 10 Silverado’s. Dad currently has a 18 Denali 1500. Never had any issues with any of them.

 

do they take them any mileage 150k+ or trade them in at 75k
