Upgrade 3rd gen Jbl speakers

I do not, but I don't have the JBL system. I have installed several systems using the AmpPro and matching harness though and am very pleased with the outcome. By far the best quality way to add aftermarket amps. True pre-amp 5v outputs with full range signal, and it is adjustable with the factory EQ (bass/mid/treble.) No LOC's in this system. Just pure DAC glory

destin_meeks - If you have the time, can you mention what speakers you bought, while using the 44KXA800.5?

 

I am running Kicker KS 6.75" components up front, KS 6.75" coaxials in the rear, and the CompRT 12" loaded enclosure behind the back seat. All Kicker Red label basically.

There are plenty of options though. I have always been a Kicker fan, and as a dealer/installer I get a pretty nice price on them that make them an easy sell.

Do you happen to have any photos of any of the installs? Where'd you put your amp?

If I've followed most of this correctly, that separate harness connects the new amp to the current JBL amp, right? If that is correct, I imagine I'd need/want to install the new amp close to the existing JBL amp. This is why I'm asking for photos. There isn't a much room back there. I too wish you were closer to assist in an install lol!

I'd probably pick up the kicker amp you mentioned because I have the same speakers from when I upgraded the speakers in my 2017 (non JBL).

I have my amp in the drivers side cubby. Grab a roll of speed wire and that will let you easily extend that PAC harness to anywhere in the truck. If you want to keep your cubby space, put the amp under one of the seats. Those rolls will usually come in 20’ so plenty to get the wires extended wherever you want them

So space is kind of my problem, lol. I've got stuff behind the driver's seat and stuff under the rear seats. I just looked at the dimensions, I'm hoping there may be enough space just about the JBL stuff. I'd prefer to keep in as close as possible to the JBL amp since I have to tie into it with the harness. Running wires isn't my thing lol. I'm already freaked out about running a power and ground to the new amp. I have visions of a fiery mess lol!!!

Obviously length and width are enough. But height it's 7.5-ish" from the "shelf" bottom to the little bump out on top.

 

If space is your main concern, I would probably consider doing a separate 4 channel and monoblock amp. Specifically, the AudioControl ACM 4.300 and ACM 1.300. Those will fit nearly anywhere

I'm about to rip out the JBL trash in my 2018 tacoma Limited. Using Focal Speakers and either old school Phoenix Gold XS660 or KAC -M8005 by Kenwood for an amp. Already running a new headunit behind the maestro RR. Anyone want or need pictures of anything specific? (Starting the teardown over Christmas week)

 

I would appreciate seeing pictures of everything. I have a 2018 TRD Sport with the JBLs. Great truck, mediocre sound system.

How did you handle the relocation of the factory amp in the JBL systems you have done to make room for the sub box?

 

I don’t have the JBL system so I didn’t have to deal with that.

I have seen other members extend all the wiring and put the JBL amp in the little storage cubby under the seat. This takes some soldering skill and time, but it’s an easy project. Or if you don’t want to even cut/extend the factory wiring, you can get the PAC amp harness and turn it into an extension that can be built inside on the table instead of bent over in the back of the truck

 

I don’t know if the jbl amp would have enough power to drive your typical 12” sub. My plan is to replace all of the jbl speakers and the sub while keeping everything factory. Of course if the amp takes a dump then it becomes a whole new project.

It is exactly as destin said. I have to keep the factory jbl amp to keep the head unit. I actually like the head unit's functionality. I ended up contacting a audio shop and they are installing my system on Tuesday. Full JL Audio system except for the Pac Ampro. Getting a custom built sub box with 2 10's.

 

I replaced the factory headunit with the new pioneer 6600 as I could care less about maintaining the factory entune system and wanted carplay. How does the effect my options? The rockford mentioned didn’t drastically improve my set up (though it’s a slight improvement) and I am considering a full gut and custom set up. Anyone have recommendations on best speakers/amp setup that will blow JBL out of the water?
