It's a way to make the tards fix their car and keep it safe for others on the road. The tards that run my state got rid of the safety part of the inspection and for some reason were surprised by the increase in crashes due to unsafe vehicles. :facepalm:Apparently driving on snowy roads with bald tires can end badly, who'd a thunk?

Seriously, yesterday I saw a car that had a lantern style flashlight taped to the front bumper. Last week I saw a Dodge truck with a screen door hook attached to the outside of his driver door to keep it closed. Both of these were on the highway doing 75 mph. Wish I could have got a photo of it.
So the inspection in our state is a joke. But heaven forbid if your tint is too dark on the back door of your truck.

Very familiar. I’ve lived a couple places over the years. I will say though, if you live in a state without it, you’ll learn why it’s not the worst idea. Now bad implementation, like mentioned above, is a very real issue.

Before they got rid of safety inspections my state would let repair shops do the inspections. On one inspection the guy was quoting me the price of a brake job before he'd even removed the brake drum. I wasn't surprised when he failed the car for bad rear brakes. They did have to let you have the shop of your choice do the work, so I told him to put it back together and I'll have my favorite shop fix the brakes. That shop was/is my garage. When I looked at the rear brakes there wasn't a thing wrong. So, I hosed everything off with brake cleaner and took it back to get the sticker.

Here, they plug all modern cars into a computer and the readout is included in the inspection report. There was a 50 year-old child that used to live next to my in-laws who had a coal-roller and got all butt-hurt when his Dodge failed inspection for being deliberately detuned. He was so mad he sold his house for a loss and bought a tornado magnet on an acre out in the next county.

Win/win for the in-laws because dickhead was a drunk ass. I made a joke to him about his drinking habits - if he was going to drink so much beer in a 2-week period that it filled up an entire 44 gallon recycling bin he should switch to cans for efficiency. He didn’t like that. Fuck him. New neighbor is quiet and actually mows her yard.

    Yeah.
No inspections here in the great state of Arkansas, big surprise. They probably figure that if you are willing to drive it, it's good enough. You are required to have all the lights and stuff, just no inspection.

RI has been doing online renewal for years. I don't think the DMV even does in-person renewals anymore. It greatly cuts down the congestion at the DMV. Unfortunately, insurance and inspections are linked to registration. Let one lapse for too long, the registration becomes invalid. Afaik, inspections are still open, so no one's getting away without inspection.
