    Question.

I am thinking of picking up an old Toyota pickup or 4Runner. I am thinking is building it into a toy 4x4 which I can drive to where I am going. At some point, I will need to go on a 4 day trip and towing this 4x4 will make the most cents. This towing should not happen often, maybe only the one 4 day trip. I would be towing it with a 2020 Tacoma OR. What are people’s thought about this being fine pulling with my Tacoma and what size of trailer would be good for this? I want an open trailer for this, as I would use the trailer for other things in the future. Things like building supplies for renovation of my house and so forth.

I have only towed my 1948 ford 8N tractor on a trailer I borrowed with the taco. I felt the trailer was a bit heavy for the truck.

I know people ask these types of questions all the time. I just could not find a good write up about towing an old Toyota pickup or 4Runner.

Any good advice would be welcome.

With trailer and vehicle I’m guessing 5000 to 6000 lbs. It will be a heavy load but since you’ll only tow it occasionally you should be fine. Be sure the trailer has brakes.

If you are towing on flat roads, it should be fine but not sure about traffic.. If on hills, no. Unless you go VERY slow up hill. If I were you, get a rental full size truck or borrow one from your friend/relative.

    Thanks.

this is what I was worried about. Thing is this would be a one way trip. So a rental and trailer would then need two Toyota. I could do the drive twice if needed. Possible not a terrible idea. This is a consideration for me even going forward with a purchase of an old Toyota.

See the trailer I was using for my tractor tow.
