You’re right! Still a lot of money for something you can do and should learn how to do yourself. Setting up a guitar requires the allens that come with your guitar, a Phillips, and maybe a feeler gauge and ruler. Because the guitar is wood and it can change often. Learning will save you a lifetime of headaches and money. And there’s no guarantee that when you take a guitar somewhere to get set up, that that set up won’t change once it acclimated to your house. It’s why bands have guitar techs, because every night in every new city the guitars have to be checked and adjusted to the new environment. Not trying to be a dick, just don’t want to see a new player get ripped off.

Neither of my guitars came with anything other than the guitar. I’m fine paying 175 (total) to get BOTH my guitars setup properly for the first time. I’ll learn eventually once I’m better at playing and know what it should sound like and feel like. But for now I’d rather entrust someone who’s been doing this for 20+ years and know what he’s doing. I’m not ready to potentially ruin my guitars

I get it. I understand guitars can be intimidating, but you won’t ruin your guitar. Anything that you adjust can be readjusted. The truss won’t break. The only time you could do irreversible damage is if you file a nut to low (then you’ll just replace the entire nut for $4 bucks), or if you file down a single fret creating a flat spot (then some fret work will be required), or if you have a Gibson with a 17 degree headstock that falls off a stand.

if you’re taking it in to get set up, now is a good time to mess with it. See if you can get it intonated and the string height set.

I don’t have any of the string tools and what not. I have watched a few vids on setting the intonation though and could probably give it a whack. But really I’d rather just play until I take them in lol. I’ve got too many other house projects I need to do in my free time

The Peterson strobo tuner is probably one of the best tools in my arsenal for tuning, checking intonation and metronome.

Pfffftt! 275 for set up. GTFO! I'll do it myself and maybe, just maybe learn something. There's enough info on the webs to make this possible.

Ya I don’t know why that guy charges so much. Probably cuz he does or has done professionals setups he “can” charge higher and people will pay for it.

Well, it’s not great, but I’m learning. I started practicing this last night and this is probably the most fluid play through I’ve done.

    I don't think it's possible to devalue a $179 Reissue, if anything, it's 1/100000 closer to a real "85".

My "85" Schaller golden 50, reverse zebra should be here by Saturday to replace the factory Alnico 5 zebra.
