I’ll whore my lights out in this thread too. Just finished mine the other day. Royal pain but damn it was worth it. Rx350 projectors with Osram CBI 5500k, Morimoto wiring, Meso stage 1 side marker, diode dynamics switchback drl, smoked turn signal covers, high beam splitter with Osram 75w 6000k h9 bulbs. And to top it off Diode dynamics ss3 sport sae fogs.

So I failed at this today. Took a chunk out of the rear housing and broke a tab. Thinking maybe it wasn't warm enough since the permaseal looks pretty intact where i broke it. IDK if the issue is identifiable from the photos. might help others.

One more question. Did you go back and tape off the outer ring to paint the inner ring black or did you use an xacto knife after the first pic to uncover the inner ring? OR are my eyes playing tricks on me lol

Quick question ... great thread by the way, I have been here for 2 hours reading every post...Sorry if I missed the answer to this one.

SO, I spent about 40 minutes in live chat with a sales rep from TRFS today, and he steered me towards the Morimoto projectors as opposed to the RX350 projectors that most seem to be using here.

This is what my parts list looks like:

    BL12
    35w / D2S: Morimoto XB Ballast

    H40

    HD Relay: H11/H9/H8/880

    MM.N.063

    D2S: XB 5K 35w HID Bulbs (Pair)

    RQ71

    RQ Hardware: Koito RX350 (D2S 4.0)

    PR56

    Bi-Xenon: Morimoto Mini D2S 5.0: (Round Lens/LHD)

Anyone have any input on why the Morimoto projector is recommended by TFRS over the RX350? I think I can still change my order as they haven't shipped yet, but just want to make sure I am grabbing the goods and not making a mistake that will cost me time and frustration.

Thanks for the help in advance !!

I’m not sure, hopefully TRS aren’t pushing Morimoto products just to move their inventory.
What exactly did you ask for when inquiring with them? If it’s best bang for the buck, the Morimoto’s are cheaper than the RX350s with great output. Best overall performance, than they should have steered you to RX350s.
The RX350 projectors with clear lenses and tuned are pretty much the best bolt on replacement there is for the Tacomas. There’s a Lightwerkz comparison video on YouTube between the RX350 and D2S 4.0, where they gave the slight edge to the RX350s. I’m lot sure about 5.0.
The Morimoto M LED 2.0 supposedly provides better light output than the Morimoto Bi Xenon projectors. That could be an option.

I originally inquired about the RX350, and Mike B said the Morimoto D2S 5.0 was a better option, so I went there...

Also, just watched that video and the only real edge the RX350 had (over the 4.0) was a slightly more pronounced hot spot for better distance. I am wondering if Morimoto corrected that with the 5.0.. Hard to tell and the price difference between the RX350 and 5.0 is $85.00 so not terrible.

The M LED looks like it requires epoxy and cutting and looks like a way more involved retro than going with the D2S 5.0 or RX350 ?

Anyone here done the Morimoto M LED 2.0 retro?

I've been researching on a retrofit for my SR5 and found the secret is to source parts from eBay. Lightwerkz, which is now owned by TRS I believe, has the RX350 projectors with clear lens and tuned for $330 vs $390 on the website. Lightwerkz has a lot of items on their eBay store for cheaper than their website or the TRS website.

    @dal3_gribble did the M LED 2.0 retrofit https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...-amber-drls-and-cleanup.678442/#post-23912862
He bought the M LED 2.0 to RX350 brackets from Lightwerkz to better adapt them to the Tacoma mounting points. Some cutting and additional holes were required, but no epoxy.

I was deciding between the M LED 2.0 or the RX350 retrofit. I went with the RX350 retrofit since I found a pair of projectors with clear lens and tuned for around $230 on eBay. I decided to take the chance and test the quality when I receive them.
