No idea. I've never hung up anything like this before. Think it's fine where it's at? I don't see why not, but I'm shooting from the hip here.

Id glue and screw the cleats to the texas side. Id think it wouldbe ok, you just dont want it to some how slip off. I think its pitched enough where it should hook in just fine

The French Cleats I did in my garage were all 45 degrees... The steeper angle helps lock it in place.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I calculated 55° for this one but used the opposite angle on my saw base by accident. I'm new lol

After taking care of the lawn I had just enough daylight to test burn a little bit with the big torch.

This piece was charred and scrubbed with a nylon brush in the middle and steel wire brush on the right. Dark spots up top are just water drops from cleanup.

This one's lightly burned and brushed nylon in the middle and steel on the left

I dunno what I think about em. I'll try my small torch tomorrow if the weather cooperates.

I lightly toasted the wood I used vs actually burning it ... and I didn't have to clean it much.. I did wipe it down to remove any "dust" before I coated it with Polyurethane but that's it.. I guess yours depends on where you"re going to hand it and if you want it lighter or darker. If yo go with the more charred wood.. remember that stuff will brush off or fall off inside your house if you don't seal it with something. Just something to consider for your health.

I like the 3d look after the char and scrub, but I may have to toast as well

Oh definitely, but I think I'll have to toast due to the glue construction of these panels, plus it's thin material that needs to be strong. Three more I burn away the weaker it may become, but idk if that's how it works.

Some test toasting. The little torch did the top panel and it took four fucking evers to finish. The bottom larger piece I used the big torch to just start the toast and then filled it in with the baby torch. Doesn't quite look as good, but it took half the time.

    Maybe.. maybe not!

The glue joints can weaken if you get too hot or too long in one spot

    I like it!

I'm gonna test a few more scraps first, but the main display is ready for flames. Got some reinforcement strips installed and the cleats temporarily installed to get it elevated and add rigidity during the burn.

I'm gonna use the baby torch to keep from melting the glue too much. I'll probably finish sometime in October. But first it's lunchtime.

I decided to stop screwing around. Once I figured out a good technique to fight the wind, it went pretty smoothly.
