What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I think I spent 200, but... Depending on how bad you want them, 400 would not be out of line asking price.

I passed over a few seats before finding these on FB marketplace. I also wasn't in a hurry.

 

You could always use this as a good excuse for SAS and tube chassis. I know a guy...

 

not exactly a mod that i completed today, but i'm getting pretty close to having the funds to order my new Windoors for my canopy. Planning on calling Canopy West this week to get those on order. hopefully they don't take too long to get here!

 

The cam plugs under the collar you have pictured can absolutely be replaced and should be if you're seeing leaking from there. Since you've gone to the trouble of getting under your VCs I would highly recommend replacing those plugs. It doesn't require removing the timing belt either. Per the FSM you will want to use that FIPG to re-establish a seal at those camshaft plugs in addition to the semilunar plugs.

 

When you say cam plugs, are you referring to the ones at the back of the motor? Because I am indeed replacing those, but the leak I’ve tried to picture is in the front of the motor. Behind the cam pulley.

 

Oh right sorry I wasn't oriented correctly. If that's toward the front then disregard my previous comment. Although it may be your cam seal, it's also possible that your vc gasket degraded there or your vc was loose and allowed leakage. I'd probably do the VC gasket job, clean everything off super well, and see if that stopped the leak before getting into the cam seal but that just me.

 

Question... what are those hex plugs? Oil gallerys?

That’s what I’ve decided to do. I found a video on the front cam seal, it wouldn’t be hard to do, but would involve taking off the timing belt and the cam pulleys. However, It can be done with the VC on, from the video I found.

 

The genuine Toyota filter is only like 7 bucks at walmart

 

Update on BMW seats.

Fully functional BMW seats in 96 T4R ✔

I ran it to the 4wd fuse under the dash. It's a 20A circuit. With the size of the power wire coming off the BMW plug (and considering it's a motor) I figured a 20A circuit was better than a smaller circuit. The 4wd circuit is not constant power, so he'll have to have to key turned to ACC to give power to the seats.

Normally seats are constant power. But I figured this will work fine. Also, if the diver seat locks up like the problem @Seagull233 was having... we can cut power by turning off the key, to what I assume is clear the memory fault.

So far though the seats are fully fuctional, and not giving any problem on the driver seat (with memory).

 

There's a few other other's who have done this one. The others who have done it definately played a part in my decision to try it.

Now that I've done it once though... and my kid's truck was the guinea pig... I'm DEFINATELY doing this shit to my truck, as soon as I can find these seats in grey.

Well after nearly a year and a half of going back and forth if I actually wanted to cut a hole in my truck... this happened





Hopefully it’ll help keep some of this crap out. I’m rarely in mud and even less in dust. Was really surprised how much dirt and dust was in that pipe

 

Worked out the wiring gremlens on my on board air.
Re-wired my bumper lights (post re-fabrication reassembly)

(Im)patiently awaiting the Amazon delivery person, so I can mount my Hi Lift jack.

 

I’m running that same tube mount and it’s given me no issues.

I would recommend putting anti-seize on the threads that the knobs engage with since it’s stainless steel and aluminum, as well as adding a 1/2 split lock washer. I’ve never had mine rattle loose and the knobs have always turned easily.

 

You wont feel any negative impacts to power with this snorkle.
