    Hello
Is anyone running a Hi-Lift jack mounted inside a Pelican case that mounted to the roof rack?

Why in God's name would you put a Hi-Lift inside a pelican case? You afraid the paint will get ruined? lol

Use the pelican case for other recovery gear.

Also why would you want to put all that weight up high on the roof.

I have an old highlift somewhere and a pelican 1700.. I could see if it will even be possible without taking the jack all apart

Because roof racks. "All that weight" is about 28-35 pounds. A 5 gallon gas can, full, runs about the same. What would you rather have on your roof rack? Certainly you've seen both, and more, on a roof rack?

There are valid reasons to have a hi-lift on the roof, there are valid reasons not to. It comes down to a choice based on several factors, enough so it depends on the situation, it's not a yes or no answer.

I just throw mine in the bed of the truck.
    Works for me.

I agree putting it inside of the case is a waste of money. A pelican case to fit it is going to cost more than the lift is worth.

If you want it on the roof rack, just attach it directly to the rack.

    Edit: 1750 is $270. A 48" hi-lift is $85.

I was thinking of putting my spare tire in a pelican case, too, but it's hard to find one big enough...

Seriously, there's no need to do that. That's extra money, extra space, and extra weight. You can't damage these things, if that's what you're afraid of.

Bring a can of spray lube, and give it a little razzle dazzle before each use.

Even if the elements get to the pins and springs Hi Lifts are easily rebuilt. Mine dates back to the 80’s and still works fine.

    Hi-Lift - 15 overlander points

Pelican case - 3x points multiplier for each item in case

Roof Rack - 15% point increase for each item mounted to rack. Racks do not stack.

I saw a guy on Instagram last week that kept his whole truck in a Pelican case. Was so fucking sick.

are people on here always this toxic, damn folks. I can think of several reasons why a rack mounted pelican case might be a good place. For me it makes sense to save head clearance so I can actually park in my two car garage since the alternative is mounting it on the rack with the large runner sticking up above the rack several inches.

I will say this, hi lifts don’t do well in constant exposure. I left mine connect to my spare tire carrier on my Jeep TJ when it became a designed trail beater, and the jack rusted to hell in all the wrong parts.

Later in the military one of my dudes had one of the pins failed to slide correctly from the dirt getting in the grease, and got some teeth out nocked out. It was found out later because the issue was able to be replicated. The pin wouldn’t slip in all the way on the climb.

I don’t even really fuck with them anymore. I find a bottle jack more useful on the trail, but if I did have a farm jack, id probably put it in a case.
