painted parts

people that spray painted there own parts mirror and door handles how is it holding up????

 

sorry im a noob and wanted info about how people paint is holding up

Hmm, ribs.. Anyway....
IMO, any part that is going to be handled on a regular basis should not be painted. Paint just doesn't hold up to frequent handling. Haven't painted any such parts on my truck, but I did paint a button on an old monitor. Proper prep and good enamel. It wore off in 1 1/2 years.

I had the side skirts on my car painted years ago, and they were that textured kind of black plastic. The guy that sprayed them for me (a trusted family friend) said they needed to be primed with a special, and expensive, primer...presumabley to "level" out the texture.

Paint is easy, but what are good choices for primer in this application? I'd like to do my tailgate handle.

 

Monitor buttons don't get a lot of horizontal force applied. Not a lot to actually pull the paint off. Just push/release. On a door handle, or something that gets rubbed up against in the cab a lot, this would happen a lot faster.
