It’s called trolling...for cheap entertainment... it’s funny how many people get so butthurt on here. We drive a Toyota Tacoma, not some hand crafted chiseled out of gold masterpiece. Seems like a few too many people are wound A little too tight. Besides what Smitty did once a week now happens everyday on TW, and I don’t see anyone else grabbing the forks and torches.

No torches and pitchforks so much, but I've witnessed a bic lighter and chopsticks here quite freqently nowadays

interesting. With the engines? I’ve read they have the dumb misc stuff (but the 3rd gen Tacoma has a good amount of those as well), but I’m reading that the engines are pretty dang solid. Considering how many of these trucks have been sold (#1 selling truck), the failure rate of the motors is pretty low

I replace a lot of turbos. Not on fords...but from my experience material technology still isn’t up to the task we ask turbos to handle. They will always be a weak link.

Who knows what the numbers are. People buy and offload vehicles so fast these days it’s hard to keep track.

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
...^^^... The wife wanted a Honda CRV, but the nicer model with a sunroof only had a 1.5L turbo (base model still has the natural 2.4) and I would not buy the CRV for that reason ... no small motor-turbo combination for me.

Bought the Toyota RAV4 and super glad that I did ... 2.5L natural with an 8 speed auto is great. :)

very true!! I’ve noticed people asking that here, “did you put actual mileage on it or did you offload it at 75k?”

Crazy how cars are swapped so often these days. I never thought about resale value once when I bought my Tacoma since I don’t plan on getting rid of it

My kid bought a 2018 with a 1.5 turbo and put a tune on it. Probably runs a 14.

Same. I couldn’t even get rid of my 01, no matter what they kept trying to buy it for. I’ve always had tacomas, and I bought a new Tacoma, resale wasn’t even in the equation.

Glad I could get some of you stirred up more.

I guess my point wasn’t clear. From my interpretation, billssr5 told who ever it was they should have test drove, after the dude said he bought for the reliability and now wants out. He did say something about not having the power of the full size, but I didn’t feel that’s why he wanted out.

maybe I’m the dumb one and totally missed it.

it cracks me up how some folks just like to shit on others and think they are so freaking great. I will admit, I was there, but now I’ve moved on to TW second grade.

I owned a 2004 F-250 Super Duty with a 6.0 liter powerstroke diesel. The very first thing to fail was the Turbo. along with the EGR. These were both covered by warranty. Later the Turbo failed again along with the EGR and the ECU. Out of pocket for me. Then the ECU failed again. I sold the truck after that.

Honestly I think you missed the point of @Vin829 ’s post.

I don’t think he was complaining about reliability- that is something you latched on to and ran with.

But hey, some folks are here are “trolling...for cheap entertainment”.

For the record, I am pretty sure that is not what you are doing.

My next door neighbors have a '15 F150 2.7 EB. They bought it new 5 years ago. They have had some problems...particularly early on with a malfunctioning TPMS (twice that I know of), glitchy/flickering gauges and some sort of paint issue on the roof. It was all covered under warranty. But the drivetrain as been solid. She's at just over 80k on the clock and runs strong.

Turbo motors don’t translate well for longevity. I bought my Tacoma this weekend, and that is one of many reasons.

I traded in a 97 F150 with a 5.4 v8, that I bought new. And that was the best vehicle I ever had, hands down.

Ford lost me because I would have really looked hard at the Ranger, but a turbo was only motor option.

But I am excited about my 2020 Tacoma TRD Off Road, and expect many years and miles out of her.

I never said I wanted out. It’s a all in all good truck. But that’s all that it is a truck. I thought the zero low end grunt would be ok being that I liked everything else. I researched the hell out of it. Loved the reliability and resale value. This site also has some weird cult like following for this truck so I took the advice of others on here and went for it. I will keep it for a few years and move on. But to defend this truck as it’s the next coming of Jesus is hilarious to read. Now carry on on what size tires will fit and what lift is best.
