    That's right!

265/75R16, currently on factory steel rims. I'd be willing to separate them.

A little off topic, does anyone have use/need of a front diff drop kit? I discovered my old kit in a tool box, I removed it when I put the Pelfreybilt skid on and did some research. Free for one of our local fellas that can use it.

dammit...suddenly my hardwired dashcam doesn't work and neither do the foglights I put in. I wonder if it has something to do with the new battery I put in last week. I guess I'm going to start by looking for blown fuses. I really wish I had a nice garage to work on my truck in. Next house, maybe.

I feel your pain. Mama and I have been discussing extensively on how big of one we need (yeah, need) vs price of such a garage. I'm having a hard time swallowing $40k for a good size 2 car, but she says let's wait a little bit and dig into options, I also thought about those dome garages, I'm not fussy, I just want a place that's dry, can accommodate a truck or two and if I REALLY wanted to, could throw a source of heat in it for winter activities, engineered slabs drive the cost so high :(

Check out viewbid.ca (online auction site, based out of Dartmouth, NS)

They have a couple 30x20x12ft canopy tent/garages going for ~$100 which is insane.
11 days left in the bidding, so they will probably go up, but even if they reach $500 that is still a great price

I have used that site multiple times, mainly buying tools and hardware.

No way man I've been buying way too much useless shit on Amazon since this pandemic broke out. Don't give me another website to buy stuff.

So I was having some rattling underneath my truck when I put it in gear. Turns out, the heat shield on the catalytic converter was about to fall off. It came off by hand. Rattling noise gone. I guess I better find something to put it back on with.

Before my '13 Taco I had an 06 Tundra, the heat shield actually wrapped around the driveshaft, I truly thought I took the motor out of the truck from the racket coming from it, scratched the channel all to hell, poor thing was plagued with issues from day 1

Mine was rattling for awhile, and I left home one day, and the rattle was gone, when I got back home, this is what I saw laying in my driveway, lol. IMG_20181229_145456.jpg IMG_20181229_145439.jpg

While it was on a hoist, I checked them all, and they were all loose or rotted on the mounting points. I ripped everyone of them off.

This made me laugh hard, very hard lol

On a side note, who was it that was inquiring about the UCAs that were the old SPC castings they found on Ebay? How did those turn out? Asking for, um, a friend, yeah....

    @Fahrenheit
not sure if you were referring to me with the "mevotech" UCA's but since then I think I've decided to go with freedom offroad when the time comes.
they seem to be in my pricerange, and for the amount of wheeling I do, I think they'll be fine.

@gnewman545, I tried lots of different nut and bolt fasteners on our Subie, each one rattled loose or rusted away pretty quick, the last time I got fustrated and went with Rivets, Worked awesome and was fast. Sandwitched int some aluminum washers and BOOM! a fast tight connection. No rust and easy enough to drill out if I had to. it was a win win in my books. Dang thing always rattled free in the winter too! bugger...

its been holding up good 2+ years later.

Made a few wheelbarrow's for the boys this weekend out of some old wood and spare mower wheels.
    turned out decent.

Then I fixed an issue that was bugging me for a bit, the last internet installer used an existing hole in my house to run the wire in. No biggie except the old hole was the 3" conduit hole that used to belong to the power mast ( mast was moved to a new spot at some point, don't know why, don't care ). That's all fine but he just pumps a 1/2 bottle of silicone in the hole and walks away. Well 8 years later the silicone shrunk and water was getting in, so to fix it and make wire installation easy in the future I put a dryer vent over it. Looks decent IMO, will keep the water out, and now I can easily run an extension cord from the generator into the house if need be.

While I was in there, I removed the old telephone wire from the 80's. Now it looks much better with only one (useful) wire coming out. I stuffed the hole full of insulation and steel wool to keep the heat in, and the critters out.

^^^^ Forgot to mention, that I was trying my hardest to keep the paint off the wheel's of the wheelbarrows, but on the last coat of paint, I asked if the kids wanted to help out. Well of course they did! next thing I know they are begging to paint the wheels the same colour. I should have known :annoyed:. All that wasted effort keeping the wheels clean.

At least painting them was fun. Give the wheel a good spin and let the paint fly........ :D

like any good Maritimer would, I finished them off by wrapping the handles in hockey tape

So I went out with a work buddy to try to do the Bowater trails but we started just a bit past the Ellershouse Exit on Highway 101 and explored everything there... problem was there was a 'bridge' made out of logs that neither of us were sure would support our trucks so we had to give up and go home. I've been considering going in from the 103 side but I am hearing there is construction and you can't get in right now but I wanted to ask you guys who live up that way if you have been out there recently and if there are any issues getting onto the trails from that end? If there are but you know a spot that's still good can you show me where on google maps or some such? Hope everyone is staying safe and sane, I know I'm slowly losing it.

    Thanks,

    Chad

I have not been back for a few months, but a am sure the construction on the 103 does not block access. I will try to send a pin, might take me a while as things are looking busy at work all of a sudden.

My sanity is pretty thin these days, but then I again I started off in a deficit situation ;)

I wish we could work out a meetup back there!

This brings some major flashbacks. If this is where I think it is, I was in there a couple years ago and almost didn't make it out. I made some dumb mistakes and got very very lucky.

I went in there alone from the 103 side. It was December 2017 and all that construction hadn't started yet. Just me and my buddy out for a drive, blindly following Google Maps. No other rigs. The road got narrower, the rocks got bigger, the trees grew in closer and closer to the road, yet I didn't know when to quit. I came across a large iced over puddle. Of course I had to go through it. Big mistake. Ice got up under my bumper and took out my radiator. Caved it in. Pink radiator fluid poured out all over the trail. Like a fool, I kept going. I was worried that if I didn't get out of there on my own, I might never make it. I thought I'd have to abandon the Taco there.

We pushed on, through icy swamps and narrow trails. Eventually my truck shut itself off. So I left a note on my truck and we started hiking out. My friend made a post to the Nova Scotia Offroad Rescue and Recovery FB page and three random guys showed up. One with a Tacoma, one with a Jeep, and one with a rebadged F-150 to make it look like a Lincoln. It was a pretty big truck. If I recall correctly, the place you get in from the 101 side is called Owens Road. That's where I met up with the cavalry from the FB group.

They took one look at me and knew I was in over my head. One particularly nice guy named Joey said to me "no offense, but we do this every weekend and it sounds like you're pretty new to it. It might not be as bad as you think." Turns out, it wasn't.

We made it back to where we left my truck, and it started right back up. God bless Toyotas. The jeep broke up the iced over puddles (goddamn small lakes) and the F-150 towed me out. I remember the log bridge you mentioned. All the rigs got across it but I was nervous as hell. There could only have been inches to spare on either side of that F-150.

I drove the truck to Brown's garage. It was close enough that the truck made it under its own power without overheating. They put in a new radiator. I can't recall the other part they fixed but it was something to do with my heater. I also needed a new passenger side rear door because I got extra stupid and leaned the truck against a tree while I was trying to get out of the wilderness back there. I still have damage on my front bumper I haven't fixed.

All told, by the time Brown's Garage got my truck running, I found a new door, had it painted and installed, I was in the hole about $2k. It could have been a lot worse. I only take the truck on the tamest of dirt roads now.

I'm sure you're better equipped and more experienced than I. Learn from my stupid mistakes.

I've attached a couple pictures from that day.

Awesome story! I wouldn't call them stupid mistakes, just mistakes, lesson learned. Very jealous, someday (soonish) I'll be able to join in trail riding, not gonna lie though, that first photo looks like the kind of puddle I'd try without hesitation!

Well that picture was taken after the Jeep broke up all the ice. Before that, it was solid. My truck shut itself off just before I could get to it. I don't recommend treating your truck like an ice breaker. Leave that shit to the Coast Guard. And Jeep owners.
