I'm trying this TSO square and parallel guide on this project and it is not going well. The square is off by around 1/8" or so over 53", and the parallel guides aren't giving me parallel pieces. I thought it might be the plywood I bought is that shit (even though I'm burning edges), but I did a five cut test and it's out on a ratio of .0011-something. I know .001 is square, but it just doesn't feel accurate enough. I'm constantly second guessing the cut that is off by my measuring tape and my Woodpeckers stuff.

Ugh.

 

What are yoi trying to square?

 

I just spent a small fortune on trying to get my track saw to cut repeatable square and parallel cuts.

The woodpecker parallel guide was hard to buy, but I had a $200 Amazon gift card.
Almost went with the Seneca one that’s supposed to be pretty good for a lot less.

Plywood pieces. I got a bit better as I went along, but I was having a tendency to push the back of the cut wide by 1/16-1/8" from the front. I'm too tired to fully explain at the moment, but yeah.

Started to get the trick and was getting the occasional square piece. This tells me it's my technique.

Drawer/shelf holes and dados tomorrow, we'll see how frustrated I get working outside on this POS Centipede or in my too-small shop if I get these installed tomorrow or it waits until next weekend.

you can clamp TSO square with Festool style clamps

 

FYI , when using the TSO rail square on a guide rail , the method I learned from Dave Stanton on youtube is to register the square against the plywood edge and then flick up the guide rail to release any tension on the grip tape so it lays back down correctly

That's the exact method I was doing, and my rail wasn't lining up with the marks I made - before I even made the cut. Consistent 1/16-1/8" off at the end. I did the five cut test yesterday and again this morning, and after careful positioning of the piece I ended up with 1mm over 250mm, which translates to an error of .001. That's supposedly a square square. When this project is done, I'm going to do some more experimenting to see why things aren't as they should be. The panels for this project were mostly fine, but I decided to butt joint instead of dado because I didn't want the slides to bind or come loose with that kind of variance front to back.

Some panels were bang on, so I'm thinking I made errors at the beginning of each panel and they may have compounded. I burned an edge, squared up off that fresh cut...didn't seem to make a difference.

 

Sounds like its slipping. Or maybe loose? Can you clamp the opposite end?

 

The alignment error is happening before I even get to that point. I'm registering the square against the work piece with the rail tilted, and then I'm just tilting the rail down to contact the work piece.

No I used a router table for the straight cuts and free handed the roundy bits. Turned out pretty good. I Cut them out with my Milwaukee compact router with a template guide. I modified the plans a bit to add an extra stretcher since I’m only using half inch on the top and bottom, and left a spot for a bench vise.

 

So, the remodel is going well...

 

We are extending our laundry room into the garage about 4' will have a folding table and cabinet against the 6' wall here and I framed that side with 2x8s son I could use the exposed back side to make some shelves for the garage side, and we got some lauan ripped down to 8" strips we are going to use for faux shiplap.
