What’s up? Excuse me if this is the wrong section for this type of thing but I just put a New lift and tires on the taco, and I’m thinking of heading to the Delaware water gap/hi point state park area this weekend for some testing and some dirt road relaxation. Anyone know what kind of roads are Even open? I’m assuming most gates will be closed still

Im staying at the Kittatinny Campgrounds. I’ll be there with a small group. Nothing to extreme. I had a lot of luck fishing on this river. I believe there is a log road somewhere near by, but it may be on the NY side. Sadly, the NY side might not be open by this weekend, so I had to book on the PA side. Seriously, let me know if you wanna try and navigate some roads. I’ll most likely not have service when I’m there.

I’ll be up there all day. Iv never even been on the pa side of the river. The Delaware runs north to south right? Is there anything to explore on the pa side?

Yes, I believe so. The PA side doesn’t seem to have much sadly.

well if you’ve got any sort of radio, I’ll be monitoring gmrs, cb and ham. I heard that the common areas like butter milk falls and places where people would congregate are gated off. But we will see. I’ll keep checking back here too

If that campground is where I think it is, just across the river from there is a bunch of dirt roads

I’m gonna do some research tomorrow and see what I come up with. I would love to take the truck out while there and hit some roads.

Yeah it all loaded fine. Hi Point State Park doesn’t seem too far. You know anything about it? You should also look into Wharton State Park in Jersey. Good off-roading for beginners as long as you don’t go into deep mud. I’ve been wanting to take a trip out myself.

Yea Iv got a love hate with Wharton. It’s nice to explore around. Every time I go there I tend to break something. But it’s a good time.

Just thought I’d update everyone. There was a bunch of gates which really limited how much I could explore. Buttermilk falls was closed. Crater lake was closed and a couple other gates. I still had a good relaxing day. Hopefully they open things up soon

Yeah man. Ended up just hanging around the river. Barely any driving. Caught two decent smallmouths. Nice relaxing weekend though.

You are cheating yourself if you dont do a canoe trip with camping out on the 118 campsites, most usually unused.
Mostly day trippers and Goddam Mupfers from the cities/ metro areas but it's a great canoe trip from Matamoris on down to the gap. Or.....do the whole 114 miles from the headwaters in NY state.
I used to do it at least twice a year.
I was also an AT Ridgerunner for that section of trail.
    Go.....use it......respect it.......have fun.
It is one of America's hidden gems if used right.

I have thought about it. Some of my friends do a whole weekend of just floating down the river on rafts. They rave about it

That was my weekend. I prefer the kayak however. Only did 7 miles this time. I try to get out twice a year sometimes more. Definitely a hidden gem.
