    Hey guys,

I just got new wheels and tires (33’s) and started noticing a slight clicking when turning left eventually going away as I straighten the wheel out. It does it just sitting still and turning the wheel too. I’m only on a 2” 6112 lift with JBA UCAs and ECGS bushing. I haven’t even wheeled my truck other than the occasional dirt road in 2 years. Don’t see how I could have a bad CV as I have 40k on it and it’s a 2018. Any ideas what this noise could be? It just started today. Had the wheels put on last week and an alignment Friday. I’m going to an off-road place Thursday to get a CMC and can have them check it out. But I’m wondering if anyone has had this and what it was. I only went up 2 pounds each wheel going to this new setup, so I don’t think it’s putting more stress on everything really.

How long have you had the suspension?

My blinker makes a clicking sound that eventually goes away when I straighten the wheel out.

Mine does that too. Have you tried going to the dealership to get it fixed under warranty?

Clicking while turning generally is a bad CV joint. Check your front axles.

Also check your lug nuts to make sure they are tight, loose ones will make a clicking all the way till your wheel falls off.

Yeah I just don’t see how that could happen so soon considering I don’t even Offroad the thing or drive a ton. Could some things be loose but not necessarily bad/damaged in that area? Most recent thing I had done was an alignment by some clueless techs. I had to go back again so they could straighten my steering wheel. And it’s still not perfectly straight. Alignment is good though. Could it be something from those guys?

Better to do the process of elimination with trying to do the cheapest options first:
Try this, get yellow chalk or something that can easily be rubbed off.
Rub it on where I horribly highlighted in the pic below on both driver and passenger side.
Drive around the block to get it to make the noise again.
Check and see where it rubs. I am thinking it is the plastic that goes over the pinch weld or the end of the fender flare which means you need:
bend the pinch weld and push the plastic liner a bit using heat gun or increase caster on the alignment (easiest and the first thing I would do first).

If it is not rubbing on that at all, then I would check the CV axle like the post above me stated.

Thanks Zeke. Just sitting in my garage turning the wheel it makes the sound. No rubbing unless full lock on the cab mounts and inner fender a little. This noise happens when it’s not at the rubbing point yet.

If it's making the noise when it is just sitting in your garage and you turning the steering wheel, then I think its probably going to be your CV joint.

Ive seen brand new axles fail, so its possible to be a failed axle. But, if it started after the alignment and wheels I would start there. Check the lug bolts first.

Check the rack and pinion. They have been known to be loose as well as have other issues.

Thanks guys. I’ll have this place check all that out. If it is a bad CV, what are we talking $$?

I wouldn't completely think it's CV though. Remember you got it aligned. Those tie rods that alignment guys mess with are connected to the rack and pinion which can also be the problem like @JaCado said.
Maybe they messed it up (ripped the boot, broke the seal, who knows). Take it to that shop you are planning on, brief them on what happened and get it inspected to see if that is what caused it.

Ya, I am leaning more on it now that you mentioned it and got me thinking.

OP, I would definitely try to see if boot is broken and let water/dirt into it. If it is, I would try to pin it on the alignment shop. Those boots sometimes get hung up when messing with that tie rod.

Ok thanks. I can look at the boots. What is the rack and pinion thing that would cause the ticking? Loose parts?

Where it mounts with 2 bolts underneath and the inner/outer tie rods..
