Good so far! Looks ok, certainly not as pretty as day 1. Has a fair amount of scratches on the bottom from dragging over stuff.

If you don't have a cheap source, just paint it. There is really no advantage to powder coat in my mind. It was just easier for me - the guy sandblasted and powder coated it for $80 if I recall.

Thanks. Paint it is then. I definitely wouldn’t be able to get it done that cheap in nyc. Not even close.

Sometimes I get frustrated with maintaining an old truck! This week is one of those weeks.

My pinion seal has been weeping, but not too bad. I came out to the garage the other day and found a puddle underneath it!

I didn't feel any unusual play in the pinion, so I decided to do a booty Fab repair and just replace the seal.

Turns out that the seal was pretty crusty and looks like it may have rusted through! Hopefully problem solved and lots of happy miles to come.

Next up, 4 degree shims in the rear axle to get rid of the vibe that probably caused this, and a new steering rack that has been sitting in a box for 2 months...

Do you have kids that swim at the y in Lampeter? Saw a Sikorski sweatshirt tonight on one of the swim moms.

Nope, no kids. There are a few people out this way that work or worked at Sikorsky. We used to have 1500 or so employees.

Spent the day on the trails with the club. It was good to finally meet @El Dahs today!

Pinion leak is gone, the 4 degree shims have fixed my driveline vibes.

No action shots yet, but at least a picture of the truck, dirty!

Hit the trails again yesterday with a 2" dusting of snow. Made things a little more interesting!

4 trucks, we hit a lot black trails at Rausch Creek. Snake Bite, Camel Back, Krawlin for Cops, Tombstone, Boot Hill, 25, 101, etc.

Truck did great, it always amazes me! Still have a steering noise - it is now a rattle on washboard type stuff. I am guessing it is the steering shaft at the slip joint, but I also have a new rack sitting in the garage waiting for me to install....

I've had a strange clunk when stopping and reversing direction.

I was determined to figure it out today, and sure enough I did!

Ubolts were a little loose

I recently put shims in to fix a vibe. Checked them after the first Wheeling trip but not since.

At least it was an easy fix!

Replaced my cracked transmission mount this morning. Had trouble finding one that Toyota still has in stock.....

Here is what I used and it was perfect!

Your original trans mount looks weird. I've never seen one like that.

The on my truck is the same as the one you got as a replacement.
Need to replace mine too. Pretty sure it's shot and lifting the whole drivetrain when I get on and off the gas hard.

Getting a lot done now that life is pretty much on hold....

Finally got around to installing my new rack.

FYI, a leaking rack will destroy an inner tie rod in less than 1000 miles!

    20200315_193134.jpg

Looks like my minimalist skid plate is taking hits well!

Your new rack looks like it might be the old style of internal guide (the big external hex head)
I could be wrong, but from my understanding the new style ones have have an internal hex

Yeah, it is. I have the parts to swap the guide in my old rack. Didn't want to void the warranty just yet though! Will eventually get to that...

I added to my stable last week, and had a blast with it this weekend! Towed it to the cabin in my 4x8 trailer - the Taco pulled it well!

Debating a hitch carrier for the back of the Taco so I don't have to use the trailer.
