I would like to post this thread to ask for some advice from those who are knowledgeable about the pros and cons of the additional leaf springs available through the TSB versus the standard three leafs.
First of all, I just bought a 2011 DC 4X4 TRD Off Road package with the improved package Bilstein shocks. It looks great, and so far no problems. I have only driven about 75 miles on highway, though. As I have not had a nice truck before, I don’t have a history of hauling or towing heavy loads or serious off-roading. While I don’t plan to try to one-up everyone else I meet with the capabilities of my truck, I do want to have the capabilities to do what I want to do when I want to do it. I will definitely tow from time to time and haul things for home improvement as well. If I get to liking it, I might even do quite a bit of off-roading in the future. Based on the comments I’ve read on several other threads about the TSB, many people actually like the standard ride you get with the factory leafs, while others are bottoming out and can’t wait to get the TSB done ASAP.
Basically I need to make the decision whether it’s worth it or not. This is based on my expected driving habits and whether it’s necessary. I do not want to pass up a free “improvement,” but I also don’t want to do it if it isn’t required. It seems that there are after market options (Add-a-leaf packs or 5100s???), but why pay for it if it’s free from Toyota...
Some have stated that the ride may be “worse” with the TSB and to reinstall the original parts would cost me. Any ideas on what constitutes the better or worse ride. What are the differences between the stock ride and the one after the TSB?
    I appreciate any advice!

    #1- Welcome to the board
#2- You may or may not get push back from the dealer in doing the TSB because 2011 trucks are not yet offically covered.
#3- You've got pleanty of warranty...Give it a little while to see if you like it/it meets your needs and then decide?

There's a thread on the 2nd gen forum right now where the OP in that thread is getting the run-around from his dealer.

Basically, I wouldn't go asking for the AAL TSB until I was sure I needed it and experienced a case where the existing leaf capacity was inadequate. Then I'd take the truck fully loaded (but with documentation of the load weight, so I could prove it wasn't OVERloaded) in to the dealer so they could check it out.

If you're on the fence, don't worry about it. Your truck rides better as it sits now.

    Brunes and Bjmoose,
Thanks for the feedback. I'll stick with what I've got unless I notice I need it. As mentioned, I do have plenty of time...

Mine has Toyota and Tacoma on the left side of the tailgate and V6 on the right side. I don't have SR5, TRD, or 4X4.

I bought my 08 new and never thought I needed the tsb done. But then I bottomed out with an empty bed and one passenger when going over a dip at an intersection. That shouldn't happen, especially with an empty bed. After a couple years the stock leafs seemed even more inadequate. Got the tsb last year and it definitely improved ride and feel even with an empty bed. Put a load in and/or some adult passengers and the extra leaf is a must. I'd wait till the 11's are included then get all new rear leafs.

It must be a US thing because I am in ontario and my new 2011 has 4 leafs already. Did toyota only make change at the factory for the canadian market that just sounds silly they are all built on the same line you would think.

These trucks are not assembled at the same place so they can easily have different parts. Mine was assembled in Kentucky and I see where some people on here have said their trucks said canada on the sticker. My 2010 has 3 leafs and I'm getting the TSB tuesday 'cause I cant stand these weak springs no more!

2011 are not technically included in the tSB, my dealer called Toyota when I went in and it got approved based on part numbers.

I had the TSB completed after around 1000miles. To me, the ride was better, but, I am used to driving trucks. The difference in load capacities is probably about 100% better.

    Some things to consider:

The dealer TSB is valued at around $1600 for the new 4 leaf packs.

Will you ever put a topper on? If so I reccomend the TSB
Will you tow anything? If so get the TSB
If you ever think you will haul anything with weight to it, get the TSB, this could be a safety/damage issue to you in an overloaded situation.

If you plan on hauling light loads occasionally and like the smoother ride, then I'd wait until you are closer to the end of your warranty to make a decision.

    Hope that helps.

Is one symptom of the 3 leaf with a load that the truck feels like it is swaying somewhat side to side? I took my first long ride with some weight in the back and it really felt like it was swaying, almost like it was very windy and the truck was getting pushed even though no wind. Thanks

    Um , no .

California ( closed at end of last year ) , Texas or Mexico .

No Tacomas built in Canada either .

Canadian trucks come stock from the same plants that build the US models , we get 4 leaf springs and the option of factory leather and heated seats . The US models come stock from these same plants with 3 leaf springs and no factory leather or heated seat option .
