Hell yeah that 20% off code I just pulled the trigger on the SS3 in amber. Rigids will be sold as soon as I get them in. The rigids I have are the original ones that were tested in this thread.

Ready to pull the trigger on ss3 pros for my '12. Looks like the type b kit is what I want and just to use the top screw?

I notice that the type b kit at lightwerkz is listed '12 - current, but the DD website has separate listings for '12-'15 and 3rd gen '16 - current, can't find skus on the listings so they may well be the same?

Also, major respect due to crashnburn for what you've done for the Tacoma community with these lighting posts

Edit: nevermind, part #s are the same on both listings, ordered the type b yellow pros :)

12-15 and 16-current are the same kit, so order wherever you can get the best deal.

Quite possibly the best head to head comparison of the current crop of LED (fog pattern) pods I've ever seen. One obvious winner ...

Probably should have thrown in the OEM halogen fogs with drop in LED bulbs to show how bad they really are.

They could, but Diode Dynamics also sells their "SLF" drop-in bulbs. Maybe they're good, I don't know.

Replacement LEDs in OEM halogen fogs are not recommended. OEM fogs do a poor job of glare control, putting an LED in a halogen reflector assembly typically creates even more glare and does not have the same uniform beam pattern as a halogen. The fog assemblies are small and the geometry changes by using a wider LED are more significant than a larger headlight assembly. The way reputable brands combat this is by making the fog version of the bulb to be lower output. Diode Dynamics does this, as does Sylvania and Philips. The OEM H11 halogen fogs are 1250 lumens at 12.8v, but the alternator voltage is higher (13.8v avg) and so output should be closer to 1615 lumens. The SLF is listed at 780 lumens. The Diode Dynamics SS3 Pros are 3000 lumens (white) and 2700 lumens (yellow) in assemblies specifically designed for LED which provide appropriate cut offs. Using a replacement SAE LED assembly is the correct way to upgrade the fogs.

I used to run Philips LED’s before the SS3’s and glare was atrocious. I would only turn it on when no one was around at night.

If you go sport you know you will alway wonder “what if!”

I ordered my Pros Sunday and already got my shipping notification. Too good of a sale to pass up. Made the cost of the pros easier to swallow.

I’m one of those taco bros that like to drive with my fogs on, all the time... the pros might be too much for the street, no?

    (tell me I’m trippin )

3" OME lift, heavy coils f/r 3/16" steel skids Modified Coastal Offroad diy bumper 5spd swap ('98 donor)

Sport for that sharper cutoff and less uplight...

And mine should be arriving today. Stoked. Now I need to address my electrical gremlin, I've got a ~6.5V leak across my lowbeam circuit when my highbeams are activated, which keeps my lowbeam relay triggered, running both filaments simultaneously. Not good. Replacement headlight switch didn't fix it previously.

In my head, I'm trying to rationalize why a company would sell both a superior solution and the schlocky shortcut. I suppose the answer is always demand: customers want an easy, plug-in solution for "cooler" lighting. The bars and pods from DD are fantastic, but most of their other stuff (replacement headlight/fog bulbs, RGB halos, etc.) don't interest me at all and seem to be for show only.

Which one of these SS3 did you get for your 5th gen 4Runner? I'm guessing same as 3rd gen Tacoma, the Type B model?
