I've been using the Dakine one for about a month now and I wish I made the switch sooner. I was coming from a Camelbak Mule NV. The Dakine pack has less water storage (2L vs 3L) but I usually don't fill it more than a liter or so. This will cover me for up to about 15-18 miles no problem. I have the OneUp EDC tool with bacon strips in my steerer tube so that helps with keeping tools/weight out of the pack. I usually keep food, a small pump, keys, and phone in the pack and it's a tight fit but not too bad.
My only gripe with the Dakine has to do with the hose. It's not as removable like my camelbak pack and I wish it was another inch or two longer. I'm 6'4 and going from waist to mouth requires me to awkwardly look down.

I think packs usually come with the cheaper version cause the Osprey one is also not removable. I bought the dakine replacement Bladder and the hose removable. I believe it’s still the hydrapak brand but it’s from dakine if I remember correctly

My hose is sort of removable but the hose fitting is like a barb hose fitting if that makes sense. It makes it super difficult to get off, unlike my camelbak bladder that just has a quick disconnect at the hose/bladder connection.

RIP @Bannerman. Died on a bootleg brake setup.

    Dibs on the dog! :D

I'm sure it will be fine. You aren't the first I've heard running that setup and violently maiming themselves

Yeah I guess technically those are disconnectable haha but the “aftermarket” hydrapaks are also quick disconnect. I’m really bad about cleaning my bladders so it’s kind of a nice upgrade haha

Are the XTRs not providing enough stopping power? Didn’t you just get those?

Great info guys, thank you! I think I'll start with an Osprey Seral and go from there.

@113tac - which 2.0L replacement bladder did you order, and does it still have the attached magnet?

Use Dakine hot laps, with a single bottle provision. Always adjusting tension during a ride if its got a bottle, but still beats a pack imo.

    Good to know!
i have this one, I don’t remember where I ordered if from, i couldn’t find it on dakine’s website anymore though. If you go with the osprey I just swapped the magnet over, it just clips on and off. Idk about other brands though.

lot of climbing? flats or DH? weather? I always try to hydrate the night before and morning of a ride. Then hydrate right before i leave the truck. So far I have been riding local trails in SoCal for 3hrs just fine without carrying anything. However, the trails i ride arent too far from the car. I'm starting to carry this with me now though. Do the same routine but now I have water for the rides when I really need it.

I've been wanting to give 4 pot a try for awhile, the XTRs I just stumbled on used from a local guy. They are 2 pot and don't have any more power than my XTs, were just a good deal.

Makes sense. For some reason I was thinking the XTRs were 4pot.
