Install cat-back exhaust - need a lift or not?

To replace the cat-back exhaust on '09 Pre-runner, does it require a lift to enable the factory piece to be removed?

 

I have an '09 DC 4x4. I put in the TRD cat-back in my driveway no lift. I did remove the spare though. I just had to twist it around a bit to get the stock off and the TRD on. I put a trap underneath so I wouldn't scratch up the piping, like it's not going to get messed up in the dirt, but oh well.

What I found to work was to unbolt the exhaust, remove the hangers from either the exhaust or the truck, whichever is easiest. Then twist the exhaust 180 degrees to the driver's side (exhaust tip pointing towards the driver's side. Then pull it over the diff, being careful to guide it over the brake lines attached to the diff.

Only other thng was to wrap the new tip such that it didn't get scratched. I also twisted/untwisted it this same way to install the new one. I.e., point tip toward driver's side, push it over the diff, then untwist it into position.

 

Lots of 4 letter words may emerge during this proceedure...

 

Not for me, and I am prone to letting 'em go whenenver I feel the time is right.

For example, I let a few go when trying to remove the TRD exhaust from the hangers. The TRD hangers appear to have a larger end than the stock hanger, which made removing it a bit more painful than the install.

 

Have to take the spare out for sure. Then the old one slips right out and the new one slips right in! (Thats what she said). Did mine in the driveway also with no problem. I just wrapped a towel around my trd exhaust tip so I didn't scratch that up.

 

It went without a hitch. Taking the spare out makes plenty of room. Thanks for the tips!
