I don’t see much in the automotive press about the Colorado and Canyon. On rare occasions I see one on the road. Anyone know how they compare to the Tacoma?

Seems they complain about their trucks just as much as Taco owners complain about their trucks.

There's just something about the way my tacoma drives down a logging road. Corners, washboards.. no other truck feels like it

I guess whatever helps them takes care of their largest demographic.

Sucks for the last of us who still use our midsized trucks as trucks. But we arent the market anymore.

we’ll be the market again when less people are able to afford $50,000 1/2 ton pickups.

    Right. I'd never.

Under $31k for my dcsb trd off road new in 2017. That's about as far as I'd go.

If rumors are true the Tacoma will be going that route as well, with the Tundra dropping the v8 and getting the 3.5 v6 w/turbo

I haven't looked into it awhile to see if it was confirmed or not but it makes sense with the direction everyone else is taking.

Honestly the Tacoma would be far better off with a turbo 4 cylinder with say a 8 speed transmission. The current V6/ 6 speed is so handicapped by the tall gearing. No torque were it is needed most. Colorado styling looks to be following Chevy trend.

They can't handle the transmission they have now. What makes you think they could sort out an 8spd? Haha.

Also, are we holding our breath that they're going to ditch the Atkinson cycle motor if this is the case with the 4cyl Turbo?

Atkinson-cycle engines are most often paired with electric motors in hybrid vehicles to make up for the resulting power deficit. Toyota first used a variation Atkinson-cycle engine in the 1997 Prius. Then they applied it to the Tacoma without the hybrid which maybe explains the lack of bottom end power.

The engine itself just is what it is. Fortunately it just moved the power instead of just getting rid of it.

8,9,and 10 speed transmissions don’t want to downshift.

They just suck. No one hopped from a 2nd gen to a modern Grand Cherokee and said "now this is the transmission of the future that the Tacoma needs".
