1970 was the last good year before de-tuning in 1971. The problem was keeping the rear end on the pavement if you got down on it.

I remember they would bark the tires when shifting into 2nd gear in an automatic and would could do it in 3rd on a 4-speed.

I had a 69 Hurst 4 speed like this in HS. Silver on Black. No AC and an oven in the summer.

The Olds engines had a different sound from GMs in the period.

I think I could distinguish the sound from just hearing the motor start and not seeing the car in those days. My mom had a 1970 cutlass sedan in those days.

The Olds 455 was used in the GM motor home along with a Toronado FWD transmission. They were basically an Olds Toronado motor home.

That was one of the best engine transmission combos that GM ever produced.

I think most people who owned Buick and Olds from those days moved to Toyota\Lexus looking for same kind of quality.

Dad had a GTO and the BOSS
Beastly engines. Crappy cooling system though.

They’re going to have me look at it to get it running. If it’s going to cost to much they’re willing to sell

If it has been sitting for a long time, you can bet the fuel system is gone. If it will throw a spark and start a little with pouring some gas in the carb, then try hooking up an electric fuel pump to a can of gas. The last car I got hold of that had been setting for a long time was a Volvo. The gas tank had turned to pile of rust on the inside.

One thing about it is you could take a fingernail file and touch up the points. Not much to go wrong in those days outside of an automatic transmission. The switch from Type A - Suffix A or whale oil Dex to Dexron II (D) killed off a lot of the transmissions from that era before people figured out Lubegard.
