I think it's the words with him. Not the meaning of them, but like the "sounding it out" part

I’m not sure I buy this article...

drinking water with salt concentration similar to your sweat, I don’t think so.

a little over half Liter if Gatorade has 270mg of sodium, so the 500mg range makes sense, but 1500 mg is a bit much.

drinking water that is too salty will dehydrate you further. To understand this, you have to understand how osmosis in the body works. If you have a large fish tank, say 100gallons, and you drop a pound of salt on one side, the salt will evenly dilute in the water, And the opposite side of the tank will be just as salty tasting as the side where the salt was placed.
In a way, the opposite is true for your body. You digestive tract is a tube within a tube, eating or drinking something does not put it in to your body, it puts it in to a position where it can be mechanically and chemically processed and then your body can absorb it in to the blood through semipermeable membranes. If you eat something too high in salt concentration, The salt would not move, the water does. This is because in the fish tank, the salt disperses to evenly concentrate the tank, but your body will allow the water to move across the membrane and not the salt. High salt means lower water concentration (in the drink- hypertonic) and water from your body will be pulled in to the solution to make the solution the same concentration as within your body.

I hope this makes sense. I know the guy that wrote that blog probably has a lot of credentials And experience, but I’m not sure explaining it in a paragraph for people to live by is wise. There are a lot more things happening in your body other than water and salt loss from sweating. And 99.9999% of the time, your body is completely capable of maintaining its own homeostasis And keeping everything where it should be. So even when you sweat a lot on a hot day, you are not hyponatremic. You may have a high hematocrit (concentration of red blood cells/white blood cells/ stuff in blood compared to amount of water in blood) because you are dehydrated, but your body will maintain the electrolyte levels where they need to be. Salt is too high, filter it out in to kidneys. Calcium low, break down bone cells to release more in to blood, etc...

If you are concerned, use electrolyte tabs, I use them at work (heavy T-shirt, heavy overshirt, heavy pants, heavy boots, all dark blue/black so working at outdoor events takes its toll). Take one tab with a small bottle of water. If you feel a headache (dehydration) it helps your body replenish it faster. But for the love of God do not start drinking sea water for this.

If someone has hyponatremia, they have a lower blood sodium concentration by definition. The weight gain is a direct result of excess water being stored in your body because the kidneys get overwhelmed and you can't pee out the excess that your body doesn't need (i.e. the weight gain is pure water weight). The study @Gunshot-6A referenced doesn't find a statistical association with drink composition, but that could just be pointing out that differences between people is more important than what one drinks. We'd need a study looking at a single individual consuming different drinks to determine the role that hydration plays.

Skratch labs is proposing your weigh yourself as a proxy for determining the salt concentration, basically if your weight went up then you are drinking too much water and causing a salt depletion. There's a big problem with this concept, the details of which get a bit complicated and will vary from person to person/day to day, but I'll try to explain simply...

Assuming you did not experience hyponatremia, any weight fluctuations during exercise may not be due to how much water you drank or electrolytes you consumed. Your kidneys should not get overwhelmed if you're within a normal range for blood-salt concentration. Using your weight as a means to determine water/electrolyte consumption could very well be a misnomer if you aren't pushing your body to the extent that big-time endurance athletes are.

Did I make it more or less confusing?!

One day it’ll stop raining in Nashville and I’ll be able to ride without deep cleaning my bike — until then — wash wash wash.

I don’t think I saw mention of evoc. Their hipPack Pro is pretty great. Expensive but the harness and back vents are super comfy. Can fit tools, snacks, phone, and water in a bladder or bottles without the pack feeling huge. I’m a fan.

Almost had a @backcountryj moment. Took me 20 mins to get the housing for my new dropper past the bottom bracket and up the seat tube. Cursed several gods and may have said unkind things about my Stache's mother.

    But its installed!

Well it’s raining a lot in the southeast so I am watching mtb movies to get my fix. It’s not working to say the least. And I had the whole week just me and my son while mom is out of town to go shred. I’ll give it one more day then we will just wash bikes everyday.
