3rd gen can’t handle steep hills?????

    that sound you’re hearing is the timing chain tensioners slapping around, as there is no hydraulic pressure at that point in the starvation.

    more is it bad knocking due to the oil being pulled in to the cylinders?

    My vote is the tensioners, but I’m hearing this through my phone.

    Wouldn’t know. My truck doesn’t do that on hills.:D

    I can buy this. I agree it sounds like it’s a lack of oil pressure somewhere. But then why does dude say a catch can fixed the noise and smoke? But good for him if it did.

    Oil is being sucked up through the PCV and then consumed by the engine, this happens normally but in very very small quantities. The incline is causing excessive oil to go through the PCV which then gets into the combustion chamber leading to knocking and excessive smoking. A catch can installs after the PCV and catches the excessive oil so it never makes it to the intake and the problem is resolved.

    That's kinda what I was thinking, off roaded plenty of steep hills and never had this issue. People say it's a "known" issue with the third gens but theres really only been 2 other cases I've heard about. Those guys just made a massive deal out of it.
