This is a 34” tire that actually fits! The lower arm has been relocated for this to happen

Go bottom out your truck while turning and tell me they don’t rub

Lol, bump stops fella. Proper bump stops and yes, I wheel hard and no rubbing.

There’s a right way to do things and when done the right way, you don’t have problems. The thing I see with a lot of 3rd gens is people trying to get 35’s on what was sold to them as a 3” lift, but it’s only 2” over stock height in reality. Adjustable coilovers measured to a true 3” over stock height, quality bump stops set at the right length, a full CMC, and fender liner trimming gets it done.

So you tubbed the truck? And you don’t have bumpstop spacers?

No tubbing at all. Didn’t need to. 35x12.50R16 on 8.5” wide wheel at 3.5“ backspace. I had DuroBumps front and rear with a 1/2” bump stop spacer up front. I did the Chevy 63 swap in the rear and had a 3” bump stop spacer back there. These pics are with the 63’s and after I cut the fenders to run 37’s in prep for SAS. First pic is front fully stuffed, but the back space on the wheels put them out far enough to not rub when turned.

With the durobumps and 1/2” spacer you are limiting up travel by over 1 1/2”. I’m not hating here I’m just saying 35’s don’t fit correctly without a ton of mods/cutting. I just want to make sure people understand this before going down that road. When you simply post a pic of your truck on 35’s and say they clear no problem it’s very misleading.

I don’t have 285/75/17’s, but I do have 295/75/16’s which are slightly wider and very similar in height. I don’t do any crazy off-roading (mild at best), but the times I’ve had it off-road I haven’t had any rubbing. I have stock OR wheels and have cut nothing. image.jpg8E404B35-3E53-482B-BE48-077A07D99E23.jpg

Going to a larger tire requires dropping the bump stops to accommodate. Up travel was never limited and I never had a problem with it. The big limiting factor to front wheel travel is the sway bar. Get rid of it and run the right suspension and you’ll have no issues.

You have a 2nd gen which is way more difficult to fit 35’s on. The 2nd gens have smaller wheel wells than the 3rd gens. I’ve been around the Tacoma game since the early 90’s and owner 7 of them. All 3 of my 2nd gens had 35’s and another had 37’s. No tubbing of the firewall. Lots of trimming and 6 pound hammer needed on the 2nd gens. 3rd gen was a piece of cake to fit 35’s.

Currently I’m running in to the rubbing issue on the 4Runner with fitting 35’s. The wheel well is even smaller than the 2nd gen Tacomas.

We can agree to disagree, I’ve done multiple 2nd and 3rd gens myself with very different results

Agreed, however, measuring a true 3” over stock makes a huge difference. You can’t take the numbers from the suspension manufacturer seriously. My ADS coilovers which were tuned by ADS and set for what they claimed was 3” given the weights I gave them on my truck only netted 1 3/4” of lift over stock. Had to crank them down to get the true 3”. That 1” is a game changer. Also, doing the standard CMC does not work. Has to be a full CMC almost to the body mount bolt.

My original point was lift has nothing to do with tire fit. If the tires truly fit then you don’t need any lift, they would clear through the full range of travel lock to lock

It absolutely has everything to do with fitting larger tires. The engineers at Toyota designed the truck to fit 245/75 or 265/75 from the factory. Going any larger requires either lifting or re-engineering the wheel well to accommodate. It’s science.

I really enjoy this truck, but it’s hard to beat a second gen! Digging that bumper, I’m assuming that’s a big help with the cow smashing

Ya it’ll do the job I believe, I hit a cow in my last truck it was a Titan with an arb but this one is still critter smashing free. The Nissan came out with just a cracked fog light housing.

Huh? All lifting the truck does is reduce caster, I don’t think you understand what I’m saying.

and FYI I’ve done a few LT Taco kits, I understand the geometry front to back

I had a Titan for almost 10 years, never had any issues with it. Great trucks, but they’ve never met a gas station they didn’t like:thumbsup:
