My 2020 Tacoma makes a loud grinding noise when the back wheels spin. This happens on my gravel driveway that's on an incline. Has happened about 3 or 4 times in a month. What could be causing that grinding noise?

Your truck will also do this if your in drive on a hill and the truck starts rolling backwards. At least mine does.

I really hate that the truck does that.

Mine has stalled a few times while it happens, super annoying because my driveway is a pretty steep hill.

It’s probably happened a handful of times on mine. First time I was on a steep rocky trail, wasn’t in 4 low only 2wd.

Truck started rolling back then I hit the gas and it kicked in. Startled me then I thought something was wrong until I searched the forum.

    Normal according to Toyota.

Just be happy they didnt put in the traction alarm the old rav4s had. My 2007 rav4 would have a loud beeping alarm when the thing would loose traction, I hated it, all winter that beep was going off.

I will now if I’m in a situation where I know it may occur and I don’t want it to. For daily driving I’ll live with it.

It happens when I pull my boat out of the lake on the ramp. Freaked me out the first time. Now it just irritates me.

Happens to me all winter. Traction control kicking in. No reason to worry
