Installed a bypass oil filter from Pareto Point Industries. "Top dog V" is the model. I was hesitant to go this route, as there seems to be no information on the company, and the website looks like it's 15 years old.

The Red adapter "puck" screws on to stock oil filter location. No drilling or permanent mod needed. I used the pre-threaded holes on the driver side fender to mount the filter housing.

Bypass filter is rated from 2-4 Micron, where OEM is around 15-20. Also added around 1Q of oil to the system. I only have a couple hundred miles on the system... so far, so good. Is this needed? Nope. Completely overkill.

So you are running two filters now?

Will this cause a drop in oil pressure since the filter is more fine? Does it make a pass through one then the other or does it divert some oil to the new filter?

Not sure I see the point honestly. These engines do not make a lot of metal.

Have you cut open the new filter or run an oil analysis on it? I would have run at least a couple before and after.

My airplane has no filter and it’s fine, just change the oil every 25hrs.

I do like the additional oil capacity though.

Yes. Two Filters. One OEM Filter, One Bypass filter.

It diverts some oil to bypass filter, before reaching OEM filter. I am Unsure if the bypass filtered oil is then sent back to OEM filter, or not.

@tamer, 25 hrs for a car is only approximately 1500 miles. Probably a little over double that for a small plane due to the higher rate of travel velocity. Kinda early for an oil change on a truck unless they are in some seriously bad conditions all the time.

It will go through both filters. It is just a matter of where in the system it is directed out and into the system.

Yea I would never change the oil that often in a truck. Airplanes with filters change every 50hrs, without change at 25. We use Dino oil, not synthetic. I’ve gone 35-40 before in mine and the oil analysis was still clean. At the end of the day, if your engine isn’t making metal you’re just limited by the oil breakdown.

I just read the website. It diverts some oil to give a more thorough scrubbin'. It is then sent directly back to the gallery. So both filters used. The site says it is supposed to extend oil life as it filters finer particles out. I like the additional quart of oil as this would help keep oil temps down.

I have not run any oil analysis on it yet, but the kit does come with two Black Stone test kits.

@tamer, true. And with a plane there is the whole falling out of the sky thing to worry about.

If and when you run a test, post the results. I would be curious about how it works.

Absolutely. Almost functions as a mini Aux oil cooler.

Hate to keep bringing up airplanes, but we usually see a 10-15 degree drop in oil temp when a filter is added.

Makes me realize i don’t even know what the standard oil temp should be on a Tacoma.

Will do. I have many more miles to be driven before its time to send it in.

Price was $200 including shipping. Does not include mounting bracket. So I just jerry rigged some stuff together. Turned out solid.
